How Google plan to take over the world... in a nice way Jason Kottke predicts what Google are up to next - little less than worldwide domination. They have the perfect place to store this map (one of the world's largest computers that's all but incapable of crashing). And they are clever at reading this map. Google knows what people write about, what they search for, what they shop for, they know who wants to advertise and how effective those advertisements are, and they're about to know how we communicate with friends and loved ones. What can they do with all that? Just about anything that collection of Ph.Ds can dream up. A bit more information about Google's computing power, and the possibility that it holds.
The Periodic Table of Haiku presents a Haiku and sometimes a bit of trivia for every element on the table. Tangentially, since when have we been up to element 118?

Inspired by this post: The Megapenny Project "Since the first penny was minted in 1787, until present-day, over 300 billion pennies have been minted in the United States." So what exactly does that mean? An excellent way to conceptualize the unconceivable.
Charting meme spreadage, pass it on. I initially submitted this page's URL only to kottke.org. Since then, I have simply sat back and watched my hit counter logs to see who has come to this site and when... there will be an analysis of this data, in combination with related data as is seen fit. Could be worth keeping an eye on. [Via waxy.]
