Charting meme spreadage, pass it on. I initially submitted this page's URL only to kottke.org. Since then, I have simply sat back and watched my hit counter logs to see who has come to this site and when... there will be an analysis of this data, in combination with related data as is seen fit. Could be worth keeping an eye on. [Via waxy.]
  • Very cool - I knew the internet would be useful one day, if only for studying itself! I have duly mailed off in the interest of spreading the meme.
  • Isn't this just a chain letter, of sorts?
  • Also: Memes don't exist - tell your friends.
  • It's only a chain letter when you have to sit there writing out 20 notes to your nearest and dearest. Of if they lie and say "forward this email, and the omnipotent god gives $ to cancer". I know what this is - a meme studying the patterns of memes. I'm interesting in how these things pass around. That said, it's not tracking very well, being limited to websites. I didn't notice that before I emailed the link. Essentially, I have now passed on the meme, but not on their radar. Cool - though nowhere near as cool as this project. I should sign up sometime.
  • You're using us, trace. I'd call this a Pepsi Blue, but it's more of a Mountain Dew Red.
  • I admit it, Wendell. I'm really curious to see the results, though.
  • It's a meme studying how fast memes replicate. It's a conundrum wrapped inside a riddle, no?
  • Hm, I just downloaded the .pdf from the original memespread link. A very unexciting result -- but it claims to only be the initial analysis. Perhaps there will be more information two years from now.
