Curious George: flute music My sister is getting married in October and has a friend who she'd like to play the flute as the bride walks down the aisle. Said sister has very simple, mainstream musical tastes and would like the flaustist to play something most people will recognise; that is, popular music as opposed to classical. Does anyone have any suggestions for appropriate music that would sound good on the flute?

Cunt: A Cultural History - Yes it's that rather rude word, I'm sure you recognise it. But it has a rich and vibrant past that no lover of the English language - indeed, no lover at all - can afford to be unfamiliar with. Also, the Wikipedia entry. Or should I say.. er.. listing. Heh heh. more inside
Spider-Nan? Pavitr Prabhakar has a secret identitity, he is a licensee of a Marvel Comics property and India's first web-slinging superhero. He gets around by swinging from Mumbai's various monuments (such as the Gateway of India and the Taj Mahal Hotel), bouncing off the roofs of auto-rickshaws and fighting his arch-nemesis, the Green Rakshasa. One only hopes that Mumbai's skyline is high enough for this transcreation to get off the ground.
Curious George Used book stores Are they legal? I feel strange buying used books, like the author is not getting any of my money. But not too bad, as I want to unload a bunch of books on them. Any ideas in what I can expect to get in trade or profit?

Spider myths debunked. No, you don't inhale four spiders a year in your sleep. No, the daddy longlegs doesn't have the world's worst venom. No, hobo spiders don't chase you down to attack you. What is it about spiders that invites so many fabricated scientific facts? Rod Crawford, curator of arachnids at Seattle's Burke Museum, helps debunk some of the more notorious claims. (Also see this spider myth page.)

Will Michael Moore's Facts Check Out? From Today's New York Times: "...I was recently allowed to attend a Hollywood screening. Based on that single viewing, and after separating out what is clearly presented as Mr. Moore's opinion from what is stated as fact, it seems safe to say that central assertions of fact in "Fahrenheit 9/11" are supported by the public record (indeed, many of them will be familiar to those who have closely followed Mr. Bush's political career). Mr. Moore is on firm ground in arguing that the Bushes, like many prominent Texas families with oil interests, have profited handsomely from their relationships with prominent Saudis, including members of the royal family and of the large and fabulously wealthy bin Laden clan, which has insisted it long ago disowned Osama."
