CURIOUS GEORGE:
I need to buy a new office chair for my computer station as my back is beginning to hurt ALL THE TIME. I spend as many as eight hours a day in front of th' computer. Recommend me a good chair to be ordered online (and delivered!) for under three hundred bucks that will make me forever happy and I'll hook you up with some music of your choice.

I've *very* recently become involved with someone who I was friends with for months prior to anything happening. I've made a horrible mistake. I really like this person, but since we've become involved, I have learned that we're not compatible in a way that would lead to anything long term. I want to retain this person's friendship, but end the romantic portion. Is there any hope? Suggestions?

Fifth strongest earthquake since 1900,
a magnitude 8.9, occurred off of Sumatra last night. Close to 5,000 are dead from tsunamis and collapsed buildings. It is the strongest earthquake on record since the 1964 Alaskan disaster.
AsiaSource interviews Anatol Lieven.
The most illuminating fifteen minutes I've ever spent reading about the Middle East, China, wars of choice, oil, radical AmericoFascism, and much more. If you didn't know, Anatol Lieven recently wrote America Right or Wrong: An Anatomy of American Nationalism, which I'll head out to buy this morning if I can find an open book-store.

First published in The New Yorker in 1952, E.B. White's famous Christmas message is one of many he wrote while on the staff of the magazine between 1925 and 1976.
Enjoy, and to all a good morrow.

The Grinch who eBayed Christmas
Wherein one exasperated father follows through on the age-old "Behave or I'm going to cancel Christmas" threat.
Low wages
forced George Bailey to leave the sets of It's a Wonderful Life. Very funny and just in time to beat the holiday blues.

Happy musical holidays, ya'll.
What is happening to me?
"My name is Kirk Thomson. I am 31 years old, live in Brooklyn New York, and work at Reel Life video on Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg. In late September of 2004, I was attacked and bitten by what seemed to be a large animal of some kind. I don't know what is happening to me."
The blog of a guy who was...uh, bitten by a werewolf, documenting the transformation process. Funny and very cleverly executed. Start from the bottom (October) and read-up (through December, if you want).
Curious, George: holiday alone time

Merry Christmas:

Asteroid coming close to earth on April 13, 2029.
Merry Christmas everyone! Adding to the long list of things to be bummed about at holiday time, including war, famine, your mother in law, the rise of Paris Hilton, and the world running out of oil...now there's another thing to worry about for the next 25 years: a possible asteroid collision with earth. Asteroid 2004 MN4 is rated a 4 on the Torino Scale, evidently the first time in history that an asteroid has been rated higher than 1. But don't worry too much, chances are still 60 to 1 it won't hit. (Down from just 300 to 1 yesterday.)
