Curious George: Iliad
So with the upcoming movie Troy, I thought I'd get hold of an ebook of Homer's Iliad. The available translations are by Andrew Lang, Samuel Butler, Pope and the Earl of Derby. Any particular recommendations?
Techlepathize!
scary extropian agendas aside, is this the path forwards to the good teilhard's noosphere? this guy and this guy seem to think so, according to the end of this book. in any event, the clock is ticking...
Debunking the hype, or missing the point?
One woman has set out to debunk the Super Size Me myth - she lost 10 pounds eating nothing but McDonald's for 30 days. Is she the voice of sanity and personal responsibility or did the whole point just go right over her head? I'm not sure how to feel. Thoughts?

Curious George: Chicago Meetup?
I'm going home in June to celebrate my best friend's commitment ceremony. I'm wondering how many MoFites are in and around the Chicago area and might be up for a mini-meetup? The only down side is that this would need to happen on June 20, which happens to be Father's Day. Any takers?

Speaking of holes: It's nearly summertime in the U.S.! Which means, swimming hole time! There are good ole swimming holes all over America, including in the East, in the Southwest, in California. Those pages give locator maps, directions, photos and descriptions such as: "Stony slides, A good dunk for the little dippers." Are swimming holes just American, or do our overseas monkeys also enjoy them?
Click through a tour of "quirky" Japan.
Skip the "Quirky Japan Photos" for the great section on odd museums, from those celebrating parasites or laundry (complete with Masters paintings of laundry-related scenes). The vending machine photos also improved my mood. For the more serious reader, "Understanding Japanese Buddhist sculpture" at the bottom of the site.

Monkey meetup!
Blue Ridge gathering, Sat. June 5th, in lovely Asheville, NC. The day kicks off with a kickball game between Team Metafilter and Team Monkeyfilter. Later we'll head to our Irish pub Jack-of-the-Wood, and maybe take in a drag show. Or whatever we feel like doing. Interested?

An excellent Godspeed You Black Emperor fan site. The bootlegs are pretty excellent.

I really don't know what to think about this. What's next: when he gets another (foreign?) distributor, it gets rated X?
