The Guard Dog
One of five Oscar-nominated short films available to watch today on Salon (you know the drill...)
Jeff Gannon comes out swinging.
Mr. Gannon I have one question for you. Is this a "come-on?"
And geez, did this slimebucket have to steal Hunter S. Thompson's words? Sorry to stink up the joint, but this (and this) made my hair stand on end.

Don't Cook This Dog.
The strange and really heavy land of missionary pots, sad irons, and flop griddles. Obscure and beautiful cast iron cookware.
Was the U.S. really founded as a "Christian nation"?
Our nation was founded not on Christian principles but on Enlightenment ones. God only entered the picture as a very minor player, and Jesus Christ was conspicuously absent. . . . Though for public consumption the Founding Fathers identified themselves as Christians, they were, at least by today's standards, remarkably honest about their misgivings when it came to theological doctrine, and religion in general came very low on the list of their concerns and priorities--always excepting, that is, their determination to keep the new nation free from bondage to its rule.

Missile Defence - thanks but no thanks
Seems like Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin's been flaunting some massive cojones lately. Now it's rumoured he'll have the audacity to change his mind on a hot-button campaign issue and tell Bush off on his missile defence plan that costs a lot, makes the global political climate worse, and just plain doesn't work. With any luck, anyway.
"I am writing this letter
(you may need to adjust your browser's text size) in protest of the perverse travesty I have suffered at the hands of Mr. Bradley in the form of the horribly unjust "F" grade he has given me for last semester in his complete fraud of a class, World History 101."

Curious George: How to find a lost sister.
I can't find my sister, who was last heard from in Mississippi (where, presumably, she lives) a month & a half ago. My dad and I are seriously considering putting out a missing persons report if we don't hear from her by Saturday. I'm trying to find her before that happens, but my google-fu is failing me, and since I only have a few names and no phone numbers, google's all I've got.
