Schwarzenegger wants to ban junk foods in schools.
I for one applaud Mr. Negger's efforts. Some people might say that although you can take the fat, obnoxious, talentless child out of the junk food aisle, you can't take the junk food aisle out of the fat, obnoxious, talentless child. To that I say: cock and bosh. It's really nice to see someone standing up to the better interests of children, even if we do dislike them on some level.
We all need a theme tune.

Put down that Cockpunch and pick up a Coke. Monkey? How about Twinkie? I am a Donut, which explains my fear of Homer Simpson.

The Golden Stool
of the Ashanti seems an appropriate post for Ghana's Independence Day. The story of the Golden Stool, and its defence against the British by the valiant Queen Mother, Yaa Asantewaa. A better picture of the stool, which must never rest on the ground, or be sat on, but instead lies sideways in a secret hiding place on a chair of its own.

Ancient Egypt (courtesy of the British Museum)
The site is divided into ten 'chapters' which address themes or topics relevant to ancient Egypt. It's not just about pyramids. And there is a nice teacher resource section for the younger tuts. Site has not been updated since 1999, but it is ancient Egypt, after all.

Joshua Hadley traveled across Japan in the 19th century, documenting a world rarely seen by outsiders. One of his most bizarre discoveries was the Kinoe no Komatsu. It included several woodblock prints of octopi and female pearl divers in intimate situations. The woodblocks ranged from the odd to the downright frightening. [NSFW]

What Michal Levy sees when he listens to Coltrane's work. Well, I just think it's purty.
In 1991 a new species was named.
Its origins lie in 1951, when Henrietta Lacks was admitted to the Johns Hopkins hospital. The diagnosis was cervical cancer. Ten months later, she was dead.

Abortion foes shun Democrats' proposal to reduce pregnancies:
"Referring to Reid and Clinton, Tony Perkins of the conservative Family Research Council said, 'Their idea of reducing unintended pregnancies is more sex education and distribution of contraceptives. ... That's not the solution, that's part of the problem. If they want to start promoting abstinence, fine — but they won't.'" Here's one woman proposing a Lysistrata response.

The "Kryptos" Sculpture,
Located near the CIA's new Headquarters in Langley, VA. This sculpture made by Jim Sanborn, the meaning of which is to represent CIA's work and purpose. Hides a message whitin it's 4 codes that still has to be revealed (realtively old but relevant).
You can find more famous unsolved codes and cyphers at Elonka Dunin's website.
