Former UVM Researcher Admits to Fraud A former University of Vermont researcher has admitted to altering and fabricating research results for a decade. In that time, he received $2.9 million in federal research funding (mostly NIH). The actual findings are listed here. There have been a number of recent, high-profile scandals involving researchers of several different disciplines. Are these outings of plagiarism and fraud proof that the system works, or does the review/refereeing process need tweaking or an overhaul? more inside

Coloring Book In the words of Jim Wirt "came about as a social experiment created for my own personal amusement. Around the middle of 1998 I decided to take crappy clip art and add my own words, then put them in a xerox copied D.I.Y. style booklet. I would then arm myself with 50 or so booklets, hit the various bars in Hollywood and pass them out. It was quite fun seeing the different reactions it would get. So now I bring these images to the internet for you to enjoy as well." Check out his four lovely collections NSFW Language

A resource for the interested, whether experienced or not. Amputee world isn't much different (at first glance) from other internet sites I've seen which enable people to meet up. There are chatrooms, and the owner of the site takes care not to be exploitative, mentioning the myriad of other pages available to people who just want to gawk. Being porn-free is a marketable angle (but lust and porn can be decent and valid too, in my opinion), but I think the site is most notable for this: "There are a great many different people in this world and, accordingly, a great many different admirers. Perhaps, some of them are sick but unfortunately there are a few sick people in every community in the world." more inside

I need a simple wysiwyg program that will let me construct a simple site in just a few days...any suggestions?

The original "cam whore"? The nineteenth-century Countess de Castiglione was obsessed with capturing her own image in over 400 photographs that recreated significant moments of her life. Like today's "cam whores," she liked to pose for "risqué" shots that revealed a bare foot or thigh. more inside
Aussies rank US behind China While John Howard staunchly followed his close friend George W. Bush to war, Australians don't hold the same affection for our key ally, with the US ranking below China, France and Japan in the public's estimation.
