Turkmenbashi's revolving golden statue removed from plinth in Ashgabat
Everyone knows about the excesses of Saparmurat Niyazov, aka Turkmenbashi, former post-Soviet dictator of Turkmenistan. His 90m-high, golden, sun-tracking statue was removed from its plinth today, four years after the dictator's death.

A group of Danish "Something Awful" members have built what they call "the world's largest amateur space rocket".
(pictures at link) They're going to launch it 'at sea' next week from an equally home-made platform after towing it out using the submarine they built last year. Now THAT's a hobby.

The Aphorisms of Charlie Chan
Almost 500 from 40-some movies in their original stereotypically semi-broken English. Some are restatements or rephrasings of older sayings ("A fool and his money never become old acquaintances"), some are totally plot-related ("Good policy to have murderer consider detective dope") and some are rather offensive - and not just racially ("A woman not made for heavy thinking, but should always decorate scene like blossom of plum") but some are gems of not-expressed-enough wisdom (my faves follow)
