Curious George: NJ Meet-up Fever!
New Jersey MeFi/MoFi Meet-up invitation for Saturday, November 6, 2004. [MI]
The Institute of Failure
Two candidates for the boring thread ('Pedestrian Errors' and 'Private Lives, Public Disposal'), but the rest is rather interesting...?
Just add two Monkeyfilter obsessions and simmer.
Whilst searching for boring stuff, I came across this and thought it might be worthy (in a very small way) of an FPP. It's not very good, or interesting, or well-coded even, but it does combine a couple of our collective obsessions rather nicely.

Rather than try to post something interesting, I have decided to post something boring.
This got me thinking. In all of the internet, what could the most boring webpage possibly be? Let's all work together to find the most mind-numbingly uninteresting material on the web, and then make out because as that other post proved we got some hot girls here.

Behind the Scenes at Google [WMV].
University of Washington has made available a 60min video of a speech that Googler Jeff Dean gave on October 21, 2004. He talks a lot about scaling, Google infrastructure, as well as how Google finds words related to the words you type. A really good lecture even for us jaded Google enthusiasts who think we know it all.
Curious George:
So while watching the exciting ending of the baseball season, I started to notice multiple shots of fans in the crowd with their baseball caps on inside out and backwards. So, um, why?
User #1: "Mofi rules! Mefi drools!"
Feel the luv. That man has some class.
Bill O'Reilly will get his comeuppance.
Or some falafel. Hopefully lots of both. But first, falafel.

Genetically engineered poodle kitties
You can now own your very own genetically engineered, allergy-free pussycat. No more, "I love them, but I can't get near them."
Curious George - What is Richard Pryor Up to?
I was watching the Dennis Miller show tonight and as a guest he had George Carlin on.
At the end of the interview, Miller made a comment that new comics (slyly implying that he was a "new comic"), always look to Carlin and Pryor to emulate.
This got me thinking about Richard Pryor and what the hell he is up to. Anyone have the skinny on Richard?
Canada's burning -
Media myths about universal health coverage.
Curious George: Put on your tinfoil hat before reading this.
My brother runs a website about local cell phone antennas, which includes all kinds of photos of these antennas "in the wild", e.g. disguised as trees, or hidden inside shop signs etc. Someone has decided to steal them for their own site. What now? [more inside]
Advent of the Robotic Monkeys.
"Researchers have trained a monkey to feed itself by guiding a robotic arm with its mind. It could be a big step forward for prosthetics."
Cliffs of Dover
"Now here's one of the most incredible guitarists around, in any style of music. Mr. Eric Johnson."
Porn Movie Titles Based On Real Movies.
(NSFW.) (e.g. Throbbin' Hood, A Midsummer Night's Cream.) "We have set out to have the definitive collection of adult movie titles based on actual movies." (A noble goal, that.) Makes me think of a party I went to in the early 1990s where a bunch of folks had a blast making up fake porno titles like The Hugeative and The Sperminator. Can you do any better?
Curious George: Sexism in "Grand Theft Auto"
I can't decide whether or not to buy the new game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. But not for the reasons you might suspect.

Southpaws, Are You Tired of Losing Debates to the Reich?
Not to dampen the light and frohliche atmosphere of the monkeysphere. Considering how precious little debate there is on anything meaningful (at the national level), does this sort of thing have any hope of appearing, or being applied, outside the context of college or high-school competition type things? (thanks, or apologies, to octopusdropkick.net)
