Curious George Uses a Slow Cooker.
Also known as a crockpot. Winter is almost upon us down under and it will soon be time to haul out the slow cooker. I had a recipe book but had to give it back to my sister before she got mad at me, and I'm too stingy to buy another. Share your tips, recipes or links to recipes for everyone here!

Late night talk-show for sale, barely used
(screenshot available if the Craigslist post is pulled). You've undoubtedly heard something about the longish and complicated saga between Conan and Leno. (And if not, and you feel you must know, here's a decent summary on AskMefi.) Now Conan is selling the show, or at least trading it in for Coldplay tix. Conan also apologises for the hair.

For about a year now, probably for a few days every month on average, I get this terrible itching in the roof of my mouth. WTF?

Health insurers are paying facebook gamers virtual currency to oppose the US healthcare reform bill.
Users of Facebook apps by Zynga (which include Farmville, CafeWorld, Mafia Wars, etc.) earn virtual currency to use in games by following links to various "special offers". Get Healthcare Reform Right offers virtual cash in return for completing a form which is sent to government representatives. Now, in response, Healthcare For America Now has countered with ads of its own.

Curious George: Online teaching resources
I'm about to go out teaching again, but this time my class is quite different, with 30 children age 11-13 all with varying degrees of either dyslexia, autism, or dyspraxia, or perhaps combinations in some instances. What are some useful resources about effectively teaching children with these particular needs?

Can you hear me now? Did you know cupping your hand behind your ear increases the volume of sound to your ear by 12dB?

There's a zombie on your lawn!
Plants vs Zombies. It's a very cute, horribly addictive game. Download for an hour of free play, or create your zombified avatar on their website. If, like me, you are hooked after half an hour, you can get it for $10US from here. Hopefully in the demo version you get to see the Michael Jackson zombie.

The Tattoo Baby Doll Project:
Wood has cleverly played upon the stereotypical naming of women as "dolls," then invited women in a male-dominated art form (tattooing) to create uplifting female imagery for these stand-ins for the female figure, while insisting upon a traditional female craft - embroidery - for their execution. Lost: the cake.
So maybe I'm one of the few who can't stop watching Lost. And I have this fondness for Hurley. Turns out he has a blog. And also that they recently filmed their 100th episode, so celebrated with a cake by TV's Ace of Cakes. The details are amazing.
