Coming Down from LSD
This drug is 'dropping' off the face of the earth, and nobody seems to know why. I've had some memorable times with the stuff, and, though I haven't used any in almost 15 years, I'd hate to see it go. Oh well, there are always flashbacks.

Alistair Cooke dead at 95.
I loved his Letter from America, which you could hear on the BBC World Service. More insightful than anything you'll find in the US. I'm going to really miss this guy. I think I'm getting choked up.
Curious, George: philosophy/policy behind promoting monkeyfilter.com . I notice we reached the 800 member mark a couple of days ago after about 4 months in operation. This is a good start, but I and was wondering whether further effort couldn't be made to propogate the site.

Election rhetoric can get hot. Sometimes the hyperbole starts flying like monkey poo. And, yes, we've all at one time or another compared out least favorite politician to Hitler. But you gotta admit, this one takes the cake. A Taiwanese opposition party had the chutzpah to create a graphic analogy between President Chen and Most Hated Guy in the History of the Entire World.
So the tiny Jewish community in Taiwan complains and the ads are taken down, only to be replaced by Saddam and Bin Laden. I can't believe how much fun politics is in Taiwan.
Please don't eat the monkeys. People in Central Africa are eating bushmeat and they're getting currently non-fatal virus. Still, it's got experts worried.

Metafilter posts are dropping, being the lowest since August 2001. Nevertheless, Matt is still sanguine. And to be fair, they were down for a sizeable portion last month. Do blogs experience "life cycles" of birth, youth, maturity and death, as Oswald Spengler said of cultures? More importantly, is Monkeyfilter just a simian knockoff, or heir apparent? Just askin'.
