Not so related, but I was talking with a friend about starting a site where all you would do is go and rate people you know, and possibly tell stories about them. It'd basicaally a twisted inversion of friendster -- the place you go to badmouth your enemies. Truly a sinister idea, and one that I haven't been able to get out of my mind since.

Interesting that people thought this was a shill. I'm certainly no fan of MSN Spaces -- I think it has some interesting technical capabilities but basically it's about building a sanitized consumerist blogosphere 2.0 that Microsoft can exploit. More comments here.

languagehat, you would like Dar the best, most Russian speakers seem to (at least anecdotally/from my experience). I agree that most of Nabokov's later stuff gets awfully clever, but I've always felt that it works in Pale Fire in a way that it doesn't in some of his other works.
