Akhenaten's Mummy finally found?
- Akhenaten is one of the most mysterious figures in ancient history. A Pharaoh of Egypt circa 1350 BCE, likely father of Tutankhamen, he founded an early form of monotheism, abandoning or smothering the pantheon of traditional gods for worship of one god, Aten, so that he was known later as 'that heretic'. His end, & the location of his remains, have been a mystery... perhaps until now.

Sushi!
...baby firefly squid (hotaru ika) in a sauce of Japanese mustard (karashi) with rape-blossom buds (nanohana). Then chopped raw toro topped with caviar. Then seared bonito (katsuo tataki) with crispy seaweed (ogo), woodland ginger and bamboo (myoga take), wasabi greens, and those little purple shiso flowers. Then steamed asari clams from Chiba in their broth. Then icefish (shirauo)—tiny, almost translucent fish with buggy little black eyeballs which can be had for only a few weeks in early spring—served in sizzling white-sesame oil with Kalamata-olive paste and sprigs of newly budded prickly-ash leaves (kinome). Then a hot pot of cherry trout (sakura masu), whose season also lasts only a few weeks in spring. And then, after the kaiseki overture, the sushi feast begins....

"Excessive Ovation Syndrome"
Does EVERY performance deserve a standing ovation? This music critic does not seem to think so, and neither do I. I'm tired of being wrenched from my seat two or three times at the end of what might very well have been a totally adequate performance to offer my applause. The writer says he thinks it's just a way of justifying the outrageous ticket prices -- for that much money, it had better be SO-worthy.
