Now will you remove those signs from your lawns, PLEASE??
"The 3rd sign was festooned with through-screw jaggies, intended to cause harm to the person removing these signs...the sign obstructed the entire right-of-way between sidewalk and curb, and what with kids cycling and skating and strollers and joggers, its fortunate that the sign came down as soon as it did, and that the land owner wasn't injured excercising his right to remove it." (Excerpt from last link.) The election ends today, people, and for the love of landscaping, let's put an end to this whitetrashyMADNESS!
-
amen. yesterday all these yellow ballons with the message VOTE BOB appeared in my precinct. i'm sure they'll be there, all flaccid, for weeks. and who the hell is bob?
-
Who's Bob, you ask? Well, let me tell you about Bob. Bob is a great man. He may be the greatest man that's ever lived. In furniture boutiques across the country you have merely to whisper the name of Bob and you'll get you the best deals on authentic-looking Persian rugs.

"The Stranger" (Seattle WA, US) reported about some pro-Dubya signs that got trashed and worse. Scroll down on this page to the paragraph beginning "Seattleites pride themselves on celebrating diversity". (Sorry, no <a name> tag to link to.). I wish that there could be some law that says "if you post it, you have to remove it win or lose", but it would be too hard to enforce, people could uproot opposing signs and then replant them after the election, and so on. Too bad. As for Pink Flamingos, I'm all for 'em! It's pages with embedded java applets that I'm against. I'm el_hombre, and I previewed and approved this comment.

Do we foresee a day when armed guards stand at every intersection, ready to fire on sign-swappers, sign-thieves, and would-be sign-desecrators?
-
Yes, sign thieves should be shot on sight, executed, given a life-sentence, locked up for twenty-no-parole, imprisoned for upto six months, fined upto $5000, made to appear before the local traffic court, have their records subpoenaed, and finally, given a stern talking-to by the man from the local Sheriff's department.
-
This morning, on my way to the polls, I saw a "Perry Homes" sign repainted to say "Kerry 04". Then I saw several more. The Perry Homes people, as you might know, were a major source of funds for the Swift Boat Liars for Bush.
-
If lawn signs are outlawed only outlaws will have lawn signs.
-
Of course, I'm adamant about freedom of expression and I believe that people should be able to decorate their property however they want. It's just that I'm also free to be a hater. ;)
-
So wait, people actually PAY for these signs? I was under the impression that they were free. Do people actually pay to have advertizing in their front yard?
-
i had my kerry sign removed by the Drunken Student Patrol on friday night. but they're non-partisan; the bush sign across the street didn't fare any better. replaced the sign yesterday - it was hard since the local kerry office was out of signs. this is the first time i've ever felt strongly enough about the election outcome to actually put a sign up... generally i dislike the clutter.
-
We've already had a dickwad remove our Kerry signs. Seems a couple of weeks ago, someone was driving around stealing them.
-
Someone removed my first Kerry sign, but I've since replaced it with no trouble. This morning I saw a STOP sign sprayed with a stencil so that it read STOP BUSH. Now, I'm not advocating vandalism of public property, but that was pretty sweet.
-
Around our neighborhood this morning I saw 2 Kerry signs and 2 Bush signs. One of the Bush signs was ripped down the middle.
-
nope - no sign vandalism, can't steal 'em, can't tear 'em up. Sorry folks - democracy sucks, what can i say?
-
I hope that people who have their signs stolen or vandalized make their own.
-
Elderly dachsund pees on Bush!
-
I believe my next-door neighbor scared off some local punks looking for lawn signs late last night. Wouldn't have mattered much for mine, which was utterly destroyed by the nonstop frigging rain around here. But I got me a VOTE HOPE sign at the Clinton rally, and that's up now.
-
Best campaign sign I've heard of: My wife tells me of a friend who had her Kerry yard sign stolen. She replaced it with a homemade sign which reads, simply: TACKY REPUBLICANS STOLE MY YARD SIGN.
-
That's perfect, MCT. And it's exactly the kind of thing I had in mind for those homemade signs.
-
(FYI all, i'll post polling stuff as i receive it in the THE BIG FAT THREAD FOR THE ELECTIONS)
-
I've never understood the purpose of signs posted in medians. Several stretches of road I use daily are plastered with signs for the same candidate. How is this effective? Is there some yahoo driving down the road thinking "Now who is this Kerry feller? He shure does seem poplar round these here parts. Think I'll vote for him." I can understand some signs for local candidates, but 300 presidential signs in a 1/2 mile radius?
-
To hell with Bob, I'm voting for Bill!!
-
Next election I want a sign that says: UNDECIDED
-
Next election I want a sign that says: UNDECIDED You're not serious about putting up a sign that says, basically, "knock on my door and pester me"... are you?
-
I want a Landover Baptist shirt that says 'UNSAVED.' But that's neither here nor there. ;)
-
my original kerry sign was paper, the standard cardboard - the replacement was plastic, probably on the same order of thickness as a hefty bag. looks nice, and it didn't become a soggy mess in the rain last night. wonder why nobody thought of that before...
