Spasmodic dysphonia at NIDCD. Spasmodic dysphonia at Wikipedia. It has a mention in DSM IV, which isn't online, but I have it right here. Appears to be a perfectly real condition with faultless medical references. If Adams is hoaxing his complaint, where is the evidence? Why would he claim such a thing?
• Hoax? Do you think he didn't get Spasmodic Dysphonia and has been faking it? or that he did lose his voice, and has been faking an ability to talk? or that Spasmodic Dysphonia is not a real condition, just one faked by the international community?

• InsolentChimp, there was a woman in NZ last year, an ordinary middle-aged woman called Willie Terpstra who had motor neurone disease and was losing her speech. She was in the news because she went to China to get stem-cell therapy, and for a few amazing weeks she really did seem better. But then everything went back to how it was, and the disease progresses.
• I dig, gomichild, I just think it's interesting that some, like Reeves (he regained some motor control in a finger and some non-phantom limb sensation in his extremities before he died) and Adams become the water cooler topics and when it comes to Pat Rummerfield and, as tracicle pointed out, Wille Terpstra people are generally, "cool. You see Lost last night?" or interested just enough to raise their eyebrows in that almost fake expression of caring about the topic. Maybe I just know a lot of superficial people. Or maybe everyone is just raising their eyebrows just enough at all of this. Maybe I shouldn't be touching this with a forty foot pole. tracicle, I don't know enough about the stem-cell research, but does the therapy only have short term results? I wonder if stem-cell therapy is like neurological botox.
• I don't know much about it either, and at first I wondered if her rapid improvement was psychological rather than physical, as she and her family were so desperate for it to work.
