• Odd... at home, trying to connect brings some configuration error screen. However, at work, or using a proxy at home, it's OK. First I thought I've been banned, as I tried out the login:login the sunday nigth during the access hecatomb. But ended up not even commenting anything. Stage fright, I'm sure. But then recalled this error has been cropping up several days before. Meh. I'm already posting (or neglecting to) in too many boards as it is. I like it here.
• Actually...it's been so long since anybody new has gotten in there that I find post + comments pretty predictable. Plus I like that it's less uptight over here - people are a little slower with the tar and feathers for things like double-posting, for instance. So I'll stay here. I likes monkeys - not only are they entertaining, yet also vaguely sinister; I hear they make good eatin'. Yum!

• I actually enjoy these posts if for no other reason except it shows how fast we're cycling here. (No, not the Lance Armstrong kind of cycling, the topic interest cycle.) At least the cycle is slowing down in terms of our occasional MeFi/MoFi identity crisises.
• For years I lurked on MeFi. When I first added MonkeyFilter (at 420 users) to my bookmarks I snickered at how it seemed everyone was in denial, thumbing their nose at MeFi. But man, this place gets better every day... it rocks.. and I can't get through a day without seeing the latest Monkeyfilter FPPs. Each one of them is outstanding. Screw the new signups, you won't catch me over there.

If I get an account, I'll start visiting MeFi again; I haven't bothered because I can't comment on anything. I'll probably split my time between MeFi and the monkeys (what little time I have left over from City of Heroes, that is).

Like if what we do all the time here is sucking our own dicks, which is not the case. Yes there's a component of colonial insecurity in this kind of threads but it's far from excessive self-praising or MeFi bashing. It's not like we are giving them the Fark/Slashdot treatment. Our self-congratulatory attitude is completely normal and easy to ignore.

• t r a c y - I think most of us are sorry that we've scared you off, especially since you contributed so much to our well being in the early days. But (yeah, there's always one) I think what you're seeing is a combination of envy and the need to strenghten this community. No one has said that we dislike all MeFites Many of us yearn to be as good as the best on MeFi. And, I at least, enjoy most of the trollish types and the MeTa callouts from a distance. On the other hand, I don't enjoy the instances when we've come close to the worst of MeFi here, because this is the community I've become comfortable with. On the other hand, I do like our ability to talk differing opinions with a small minority (thanks f8x and others for making that easy) of those who are more conservative than the majority, which doesn't seem as easy on MeFi. I've found relatively few instances here where I thought "Would you talk to someone like that if you were face to face with them?" The aura of MeFi seems to be "this is really serious shit", while here it seems to be "Let's have fun, with maybe a serious discussion sometimes." Very different communinities, even though this one seems to have to work through a bit of anxiety about not being as wonderful as the mother blog. And, yes, MeFi is the icon. If membership opens up again, I think some MoFites will defect, maybe even many of the ones I'd really miss. So, we'll just read their contributions over there and wish sometimes that we could comment.
