• I had this post prepared since before the blue's, BlueHorse. Expecting some other site not to post about the anniversary of one of the most fascinating events of modern history is a bit much. I haven't even looked at MeFi for over a week. Also you smell.

• The problem with any stories coming out of Russia is that there is a parlous amount of absolute piffle passed off as actual reporting, even more so than you find on crazy UFO websites in the West. I mean, an egregious example is the Russian media giant Pravda, which, one would think, is a source of decent reliability, whereas in fact the present iteration of Pravda is nothing like its pre-Iron Curtain forebear and has about the reliability of the Weekly World News of batboy fame. So you really have to check your sources and find other links to back 'em up.
• The obvious explanation of the Tunguska incident: Ask yourself who could knock all those trees down? Listen, there are only four possibilities. a) Paul Bunyan b) comet c) a yeti with a truck d) vacuum suction guy So anyway, I don't need to spell it out.

• When I hear "Tunguska," The X Files is the first thing to spring to mind. It takes actual effort to recall that Tunguska is a real thing that actually happened. Hard to believe it's been eight years since that episode aired. The second movie's on its way of course, but I have to admit my overall feeling is: indifference.
• The first movie was a bit of a dud, frankly. "Oh, Scully, if you just turn your head slighty you'll see that the people of Australia have written your name with candles you'll see the giant UFO rising from the ground..." *sigh* Just like Snuffleuppagus. Though I do loves me some Scully. I'd need to do a lot of catching up before I see it. If I do.
