How come Bill O'Reilly isn't on the list?

In "Curious George: What're the last 5 books you've read?"

Currently reading "The Stupidest Angel" by Christopher Moore. -"Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides -"Haunted" by Chuck Palahniuk -"The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini

In "Republican Senator Charged With Sex Offense. Again."

Now I'd be interested to hear what the proper construance of the actions is meant to be. Hey, buddy, could you spare a square?

In "Alberto Gonzales Resigns:"

I think after Reagan got in, the crooks realised that they didn't have to worry so much about getting away with their shit, the populace obviously had other things they were more interested in. Well, I, as an American, am sickened by this new increase in paternalism and brutality towards the rest of the world, and come next elect....ooooh, shiny! *bounces away*

In "Harsh Words Die Hard on the Web"

This scares the hell out of me. It has effectively created a way for anonymous users to eliminate competition for jobs by slandering them in a public forum. This may be particularly damaging in the realm of law education and employment. I've heard stories were law students would go to the library for an assignment, find the text they need, copy it, rip it out, and then destroy or hide the ripped out text...all to annihilate the competition. This just seems to add another dimension to that phenomena and make character assassination easier. Well, as was quoted in the WSJ story: "We're lawyers and lawyers-in-training, dude. Of course we follow the law, not morals." Indeed.

In "Curious George: Newsfilter"

To me, the discussion on the merits of the media, in light of this story, justifies the posting. I've found it quite thought-provoking. This is a case where I think death is too good for these assilants...but that's a whole other can of worms.

In "20 Killed at Virginia Tech Campus"

This discussion reminds me alot of this story that I saw on NBC not too long ago. Also, I'm interested in reading a good, in depth, discussion of the pros and cons of NBC showing Cho's photos and videos. I'm rather conflicted about it myself. Anybody see any good discussions on it anywhere?

Does anyone find him or herself thinking (as I often do) that it's not a matter of if, but when some kind of shooting like this happens to someone we love, or at our workplace? Absolutely. My dad worked at a huge multi-national computer company where he managed a guy who used to talk lovingly and at length about all of his guns...and then make veiled threats regarding using those guns on his coworkers. I can still remember my mom, obviously shaken, telling my dad "He's going to come in and shoot you all one of these days!" The guy was sent to counseling, but it didn't seem to help. As far as I know, he still works there. Fortunately, my dad does not.

I agree whole-heartedly with Plegmund. Well said.

In "Eau de Play-Doh"

I wear Demeter perfumes myself. I'm partial to creme brulee, gingerbread, pumpkin pie, and ginger ale.

In "Curious George the Nostalgic Audiophile."

I can't discount the music "foundation" laid by my mother since it's the foundation upon which my musical taste is built (whether by embracing or rejecting parts of it). My earliest music memories include my mom playing ELO, the Eagles, Neil Diamond, Barbra Streisand, Bee Gees, and Elvis. However, as a teen, the following albums rocked my world (pun intended): New Order - Substance. The first New Order album I bought. It opened up a whole new world of music for me..the world outside of mainstream radio. Kate Bush - The Whole Story. Another "singles collection," like the album above. Really opened my eyes to musical and vocal techniques that I never knew existed. Also, this album began my love of strong, independent female singers. Siouxsie and the Banshees - Juju. Once I found Siouxsie, I was a "goth" for the rest of my teen years. I was even voted "Most Individual" (altho, I must admit that I went to a very conservative high school where one step over the line of convention caused an uproar). Unlike New Order and Kate Bush, this gave me a place to scream and howl and thrash about.

In "What American accent do you have?"

Midland: I have no accent, at least as far as America is concerned. Interestingly, I'm from Kentucky. My mom is from Indiana and says "warsh," as in "George Warshington."

In "Pencil collectors society "

Bush sucks ;)

In "How's Your Boy?"

It always ends up being about Bush sucking. I could start a thread about pencils and it would end up being about Bush sucking. Indeed, the Papermate Classic far exceeds the quality of the Dixon. With the Papermate Classic, I can write "Bush Sucks," with smoother, more elegant lines. In addition, for the lefties, the Papermate smudges less thereby lessening the blurring your "Bush Sucks" statements when your hand moves by.

Thanks everyone! I talked my friend out of calling it a bridal shower. Actually, we can't really afford a wedding either. We're just gonna sign some papers. Regardless though, I think weddings are a huge waste of money (you'd never believe how relieved the future-Mr.Topolino was to hear that). I didn't want an engagement ring either since I'd never wear it and I'd prefer something that actually entertains me. I asked for an engagement PlayStation and a hot tub. Got the PlayStation; still waiting on the hot tub. We do plan, in a year or so, after we've saved up some money, to throw get-to-know-the-new-in-law parties in the US and in England. From what I've heard about my fiance's friends and family in England, we'll end up spending as much money on liquor as it would take to buy a small car. Yikes! :P

Sometime in January. It's a bit of a weird situation in that he's immigrating from England. His embassy interview and medical are at the end of Dec. Barring any unforseen problems (like he's found to have TB or something), he should be here mid-Jan, and we're getting married at the courthouse within a week. Weird, I know :)
