In "iSketch"

Erk. It tells me that "iSketch will not work with [my] current system. It needs a Roman language setting." What does that mean and what should I do?

In "Videogame sales UP, music sales DOWN, but BOTH are pirated."

Definitely not just an old guys' hobby. I first got interested in SNES roms when I was around 14. The Sacred and Profane: That's how I got interested in games, only it wasn't FF7. I don't remember what.

Do you wear a lot of blue-coloured clothing, dirigibleman? The page suggests that grey-blue is the most common colour, being an 'average' of different coloured clothing, but "those who habitually wear clothes of a similar colour tend to produce fluff related to that colour." [Note: Scroll down to "Where does navel lint come from?" Oh, and the page contains pictures of balled-up navel lint collected over many years, if you're easily grossed out by that stuff.] I can honestly say that I've never heard of navel lint collecting before this. It's very, er, unusual.

In "Origami Portraits."

That's so awesome! I'm rather partial to the Velazquez one.

In "Curious George...fingers...."

I've been touchtyping for as long as I've used computers, because there used to be a learn-to-type programme on my first computer and I used to teach myself to touchtype when I got bored. I never use my left thumb, and only use my right thumb for pressing the spacebar. I type all the other keys with the rest of my fingers, and don't watch the keyboard most of the time. dxlifer: I don't know about other people, but at least for me, it's better if I'm not conscious about my typing. Typing is just an intermediary step between my thought process and the computer -- so the less I think about the middle step, the faster I can get my thoughts on the screen. ... I hope that made sense to you.

In "The Secret Origin of the Smiley"

jb: You're right, the horizontal smilies (e.g. ^_^, -_-, <_<) are almost exclusively used in Asia (or Asian-susbcultures in other continents). =^_^= is also used for kitten-like faces. As well, they have lots of other smilies using only characters available in Asian ascii. Here is a flash animation using Japanese ascii characters [warning: music!]. I mix my horizontal and vertical smilies -- it's weird, but there are certain emotions that I feel can only be communicated with certain faces.

In "Miss Digital World:"

Wow, the uncanny valley is an interesting read. Thank you.

In "Curious George: Whither MeFi?"

Well, I don't know. I think a MeFi account is something useful to have, whether or not you plan to participate on a fairly regular basis. I'm personally more interested in the green -- just because there are so many MeFi members, questions are likely to receive more replies.

In "MeFI selectively open"

Wow, I just signed up for MoFi only about two days ago and now MeFi is (sort of) open? I don't know what to do now.
