What is so funny here is that all the comments believe the cover stolry that the plane was on a photo op! sure. Went with two fighter planes into an area where planes are forbidden to go--for photos? and when the defense guy said he takes responsibility, did he offer his resignation or was it then asked for by the president. nah...what was being tested was detection time, and to do that, the test needed to be kept secret, and then when so many folks panicked, they came up with a cover story. Want a photo op? you do not need NY City if you are shooting the place and not the city. MSM, TV and comments here went for the lame excuse/story fully.
You might dislike (say) academy awards but does that give another nation the right to say they have been insulted because of the award? Focus upon the issue, which is really about the reaction from Islamic nations. If Rushdie were Christian this would not be a headliner.
John Keneth Galbraith, a leftleaning economist and wonderful writer said a number of years ago that we had Socialism for the corporations, esp. military places, and capitalism for the ordinary guy. The govt took care of corps and the little guy was on his own. Believe it? Well ask about your health care reductions, your minimum wage changes for the past 10 years, etc etc etc.
the Dobbs "defesne' for the mistake is plain stupid and arrogant. Not the sort of thing he is usually associated with. Worse, though, he has yet to admit that he screwed up and then move on ...My problem with Dobbs is that he is against illegals in the country but offers no sugestion as to how the govt can round up some 12 million of them and ship them out and in the process proect the rights of citizens, that is, you see a guy you think is illegals. You can not demand idenfication papers. So what would he do?
Look. I made a lot of money by using my smarts and worked hard to get that money. I drive a big car, very big, because I feel safer in it and it suits the image I want to project. If I can afford the gas, why whine because you can not? A guy is known by what he drives. You drive small and cheap? guess what?
Without taking a postion for or against what is said in the post itself, please note how many of these commenbts do not show where the article ils dead wrong but instead attack thge guy writring the article, the place the article appears, and the previous work by the author.
Now show where what is said is dead wrong because you have the facts, stats, studies to show his errors.
1. lure cat with food to boxl. 2. Put in box with soft cloth for comfort. 3. Drive out to neaby woods. 4. Open door and take box outside. 5. Dump cat and toss empty box. 6. Drive away.
I am still taken aback when I see items that refer to the NY Times (or other papers) as "not impartial." Separate, please, an editorial position from reporting of news. In their reporting, the NY Times is reasonably fair and objective, hardly the partial point of view implied. In the piece referred to here, a group of writers studied a number of sources and prepared the report. Their findings in fact are pretty close to what appears in the forthcoming issues of both Time and Newsweek.
It is not a black thing but a poverty thing? Ok. What percentage of population in (were) black? something like 68%.Of those, a large portion were below the poverty level. Below. Average income: 20 thousand bucks per year, I believe. Who got out of NO? those with cars. Who had cars? Who used to count of public transportation for travelling about? Now if any of this stacks up, it means that most of those stranded were blacks becauswe they were poor. Why were so many within the black community both stranded and poor? Answer: they were black.
