Thanks for the post Cellar. That was a very moving letter to read...... How ignorant, and evil, it is to discriminate! It's a mind boggle how people spew such hate openly with one hand pointing, the other holding a bible. I just don't get it. Also BlueHorse thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I think you got some very cool kids.
Given the lack of information and mainstream media coverage regarding the tragic chain of events, I contacted Carla Mendes at the given e-mail at RTMark. I had been wondering if this was perhaps a hoax, or performance. She had a spokes person reply.
"At 5:24 PM -0700 5/27/04,
Hello Carla;
I am sending you this e-mail to inquire about any
details you might have that have not been published
on- line as of yet. There is debate at the moment
within some online communities as to the authenticity
of the unfortunate events that have taken place in
regards to Steve Kurtz, and the passing of his
partner. The news sources available at the moment are
fragmented at best. Can you confirm that this is not a
hoax or an art performance and is indeed true. I am not
a reporter. I am an artist from Toronto, with a blog
and am a member of numerous web communities that have
posted the story, such as Metafilter et al. If true my deepest condolences to Steve and family,
and friends.
Thank you for your time.

Hello-
I am going to step in and answer because carla is setting up a show
at Mass Moca right now. This is not a hoax. There are news sources
out there... there has been no major national news, perhaps because
steve can't talk to the press.
but here is one local story:
WGRZ
this event was covered in over fifty local TV news stories in
buffalo...
Anyway, sorry to say its true
FRank."
So I think at this point we won't hear much more until Steve makes a public statement.......And yes, its a ditto post from mefi. ;)~
Thanks for this excellent post Mare. I had no idea there were laws to de-rail intellectuals in their work, let alone put them in prision. Not in Amerikkka. It is very disappointing to read of the circumstances of the arrest of Steve in light of the death of his partner. WHAT A SAD SHAME! I will post your link on my blog and get the word out in the Toronto arts community.Thanks.

I first learned of SRL performances from a handfull of instructors in art school. That was my intro to the cult of SLR. Just mind blowing machines. We were shown a video clip, Mark talks about where they find all the parts and material to build these things and I'll never forget what he said. "We get our stuff mostly through obtainium....Y'know, we buy it, find it, or...uhm...obtain it." I got the impression some of the stuff was very hard to by. They also did a performance at OCAD years ago, which is still talked about like it was yesterday. Great link. Thanks!
Thats a pretty lame rule. What do people do with their beach, or BB-Q pic's of Dad? Drive out of state to get them developed? I hope that guy gets his picture.
Those are some great photos. The person walking in the dust storm stands out for me. Also the abandoned equipment buried under the dirt is also quite haunting. Nice thanks X!
That was a great post Blaise. Thanks! I like the way it is set up to give you that cinematic feel, it just reels you in. Great music, great site. And our 2000th post, fantastic!
The above link "CAPTAIN PSYKO" is probably going to offend some members of mofi. I also tried the link at the bottom of the page you linked to...........wise-up!.......There is nothing funny about racism!!!
ENOUGH!!! It's starting to sound like Christmas morning in the jungle. I am 100% with what wedge said. It is getting kind of petty over at the blue board, and the posts are getting kind of lame also given the sizable membership. I for one think they can shove up their asses. Mefi needs to mellow out with such snarkyness. I can do with out it. I feel us Monkeys live in a much warmer climate!......CHEERS EVERYONE!
Thanks dng for pointing out the bad link. CHHERS! Ted's from Ottawa, and is a graduate from OCAD's art program in Toronto. He is represented by Fran Hill Gallery.
