MeFi is written in ColdFusion. Recent versions of CF (6 onwards) are Java-based. Part of my day gig is developing web-based workflow automation applications in ColdFusion. I learned very quickly that Windows + Jrun + CF = unstable crappage. Linux + Jrun + CF = almost unbreakable (particuarly when used in conjunction with MySQL and as long as the code itself is well written which I'm not convinced MeFi/MeCha/AskMe is).
I state this not as a rabid Linux fanboy but as a statement of fact based on occasionally fustrating personal experience.
Darn it djryan, was going to suggest Ben Folds as well. You mentioned 'Underground' so I'm gonna recommend 'Rockin' The Suburbs' for it's seething nerd angst.
I always thought that the Spin Doctors had a definite lit-geek edge.
Ah crap, this sucks. I always found John's voice somehow soothing and reassuring, the epitome of cool English eccentricness. I think I'll miss "Home Truths" even more than the Radio 1 sessions.
My sincere coldolences to his family. Say "Hi" to Douglas Adams, John. I think you two will get on famously.
The tone of that article reminded me of Jack Black's character in "High Fidelity". You're favorite band sucks, and if you disagree you're fuckin' wrong!

74%, 139 miles. I'm another Britisher. I found the north eastern and western states pretty easy but got a bit lost in the midwest and south.
