Site's working fine for me, sorry, islander!
I agree on innocuous, but the more interesting the better - I do sometimes pick books based on the cover...
Okay, maybe it's my state of mind right now, but that brought tears to my eyes. They've really done well by those dogs to bring their weight down like they have, and the surgeries and everything. A happy ending story is a nice change...
There's quite a few missing that I would have liked to see there, but I didn't nominate any, so I guess it's on my own head. I agree an Ostanek song would have been great. We saw him perform once at Oktoberfest in Kitchener-Waterloo and he was amazing, just amazing.
Nothing against Bublé, but he's up against Oscar Peterson, for crying out loud!
This is, frankly, sublime. I was all ready to vote for the "Why does some music make you want to shake your butt?" but had to go with the 79-year-old man's desire to find out the truth of an old photograph.
Man, I'm so sorry, but I'm not going to make it. Have had an exhausting weekend and would need to involve the spouse to get a ride up and he's exhausted too, and we both have to work tomorrow. I really wanted to come...hope you guys have a great time.
Anyone still in town tomorrow (Monday), though? I could take the train up, leave a little early from work. Could be in the city by 6:30 or 7.
Have just discovered this through bone's blog...may try to make it up. What time y'all meeting? My eyes crossed reading the thread. I'm heading to the city shortly with friends who are visiting but then will hopefully have time to come back home, sleep, and go back up again...
I don't have as much time as I'd like for reading, GranMa, so I go for quality - and I never liked romance novels anyway, nor dispensible mysteries, chick lit, or the like. Yeah, I'm a book snob, I'll admit it! Nothing wrong with it either way. That said, I have a lot of Stephen King in my past (think: entire catalogue to date in grade eight), still think Jurassic Park was a cracking good novel, am a huge fan of Harry Potter, and I've been working my way through W.E. Johns' catalogue of Worrals and Biggles books, which are pulpy British kids war adventure books. But they're old, so they count as quality. Plus, they're tremendous fun. ;)
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (much much loved, as was expected)
Mrs Dalloway ~ Virginia Woolf (excellent)
A Long Way Down ~ Nick Hornby (surprisingly terrific, did not have any particular expectations)
A Long Way Gone ~ Ishmael Beah (harrowing but extremely worthwhile)
The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles ~ Haruki Murakami (currently reading; excellent at the halfway point at least!)
Fascinating story, thank you - and certainly reinforces your true point about vaccinations.

Hey Trac - this is great. I've stopped 'filtering lately but when time permits in the next while, I'm going to try to get back here more often. :)
