In "Doomsday vault design unveiled."

Wow. First I have heard of that. Freakin' cool. Arctic style.

In "Billy Bragg's current fav video."

I was at the show. great small venue, intimate. i was somewhat worried that, since he was touring his box set from the second half of his career that the show would exclude all the earlier stuff (which I prefer). but no, it was a good mix. a few new songs that sounded better, to me, than anything I've heard from him in years. I think I have seen him 5 times now and that show was the best. especially with the awesome second encore.

In "British TV Adaptations."

Woo and hey! Erm, I wrote that quiz. Glad you're enjoying it.

In "Hilarious House of Frightenstein!"

wow, last time I looked up info about this (a few months ago) it seemed like a DVD release was being held up by the guy with the footage (who seemed like he was being a bit of wanker about it). but back on TV, even better! though I don't have that channel so I may have to see what the interweb comes up with. I'd love to see a couple of episodes again.

In "William Shatner - Rocket Man"

of course, I thought the original link was only an audio link, but then remembered that real media can also be video but then HAH - original link seems to be dead, to me.

Wouldn't a thread revive benefit from a touch of Shatner performing Rocket Man given that You Tube wasn't even around when this thread started? I think YES.

In "Move over Chuck Norris."

I am mildly amused enough to say "more, more!" Cox and Combes, that might be the source of more. whoever they are.

In "Furious George"

I've been keeping a list of references (well, papers that I have read or acquired in the pre-writing stage) in an Access database. All the basic citation info with the abstract included so that I can search the records. I tried to convert it to Endnote and didn't get very far and after reading this I think I'll avoid Endnote. Hopefully, the Acces report dealie can format my records into a referencely useful form when the time comes.

In "From sand and lake water."

I thought the secret was that they start with a pre-packed block of sand and carve out a sculpture. and by pre-packed that would be uber-pre-packed. they must have some sort of ideal compaction and water/sand ratio and you probably even need a special kind of sand (not so special that it isn't found in abundance on a beach, just that any old beach or desert might not have the best sand for this application). but what do i know.

In "Ask a Ninja."

a mate told me about this just recently. what I have seen has pleased me significantly.

In "The Drowsy Chaperone."

I Love (x lots) Twitch City. I hear it is coming out on DVD soon (he said so on his limited run CBC radio program). Good to hear that he is bringing his awesomosity to other avenues.

In "How to cook ramen noodles"

That was great. The page title suggests it was part of a competition. If that didn't win, then I wonder what topped it.

re RalphTheDog's beer observation: Something like Bud would have been brewed in Canada. So, in essence, it would be a Canadian beer using the same name but a different recipe. As I understand it, at least (and I don't touch the stuff myself).

In "Canadian Election: Conservative victory?"

Giles Duceppe is my MP, so it won't make a difference who I vote for (other than 'percentage of the vote = party funding' sort of things).

In "The Secret of the Hidden Hummers."

Is there some sort of West Coast hip hop slump that correlates to the hummer sales slowdown?

In "Can you not hear the sound of my victory?"

that was good. better than, but including, a herd of leprechauns.

In "If Fox News Had Been Around Throughout History"

Pilate "We found him like that". Near LOL. It made me smirk, at least. Mentally.

In ""The band weren't very good and I'm not having a nice time.""

Hurry, get on the backlash bandwagon! There's still room! (FWIW, I think they are OK).

In "This year's Ignobel winners!"

The FPP link describes these as "fake Nobel prizes"!?! c'mon now, the IgNobels have been around for 15 years and they ain't trying to be fake Nobel prizes. They are tongue in cheek sort of things with the name being, obviously, a play on the worlds ignoble and Nobel. Looks like the author of the treehugger.com piece had never heard of them? I love the idea. but fake Nobel prizes? Huh?

In "Google Maps finds Roman ruins"

lucky those ruins weren't 800m to the east (or right) where the pic is not nearly as clear. imagine what ruins lie beneath the pixelly bits!
