I think the article was interesting because it was this woman's opinion of several experiences that has led her to believe that *certain* men exhibit more than their fair share of what might be deemed condescension.
Consequently, I began to think how I approach women and how they might take my conversational style. Do I come across as *that guy* or am I the sensitive and sympathetic type? Or am I just me?
Lol. Is there any way we can all do a world-wide MoFi meetup? I'd be happy to jaunt anywhere on the seven continents.
I've been too busy to do much online community stuff for the last two years, primarily because I am now officially a movie producer. I've got a film premiering in Ethiopia this December in Addis, and up to this point, I've been working like mad to get the darn thing completed and in a state worth showing.
Still lots of work to be done, marketing, et al. But it's nice having that notch on my belt.
How's everyone else doing?? I miss you :/
What the Bagel Man Saw
I remember reading this article and thinking how nice people can be when they're not jerks.
I sent the eyes article to my church, and suggested they put a picture of Jesus' eyes watching the collection box in the narthex. I suggest that it can hardly be called unethical if it's used to deter crime.
Not to self-comment, but this is my first post in a long time (I've been lurking for the last year). Please forgive any oddities here!
I was struck by the cavalier attitude Miller seems to have had about it. Fascinating story of a man who sounds like he successfully put a good face on something he knew was horrible.
Possible, though my friend's brother is quite charming, wears clothes, isn't especially hairy, and isn't stupid. I'm not sure that I agree with your assessment of our alternate history.
One of my good childhood friends has a little brother with Williams' Syndrome. He's amazing, totally friendly and innocent. If only the entire world was like him, we'd lack any reason to kill or hurt each other.
As an English major this has always been a peeve of mine. That and "to" instead of "too."
But what can you do? I've learned to grit my teeth in silence. It's the interwebs, for the most part, I thankfully don't see it other places.
I'm okay and people I know and love are okay, but we're all pretty damaged by this. I live in LA now, but Blacksburg, though 3,000 miles away, is still so close to me in my heart and memory.
This just feels like a rape of everything good and decent about the place. And the media coverage is just about as nauseating as I can imagine.
Thanks everyone for your condolences.
I never thought something like this could happen at my alma mater. You get hit with Columbine, but I'm not sure it has the same effect until it happens in a place you know and have lived for 7 years.
I'm shocked and can't understand any of this. My heart is breaking.
When sound on porn catches up to the new HD picture, everything from the orgasm "ohs" to the butt pimples will be gloriously fake. I mean, more fake. I mean hi-fidelity fake. Whatever. It's still naked people...
Amazing, and amazingly respectful of Johnson's decision.

In "Oh dear, timesuck alert."
Grrr, stupid Javascript and AJAX alerts kept screwing with me, causing my computer to lock up and restart. On the plus side, not a time suck.

Thank you for this, Hank. What a fascinating story! Who thinks this would make a great movie?

As a collective, I'm highly impressed at how well MoFi is and has been doing. I've been pretty negligent in my online presence, which makes me feel like a turd. Which is why I think it would be grand to have a unified, One-Meeting-To-Bind-Us soirée. But I don't suppose that'll happen any time soon. Maybe at MonkeyFilter Year 10? Anyway, congrats to tracicle for keeping up the site, and everyone else for also doing their part. The world is not worthy of you. Cheers!
