If you liked the Banana Splits, Sid and Marty Krofft stuff like Bugaloos, or the Monkees, you'll definitely dig Bzots. It's a musical series about three industrial assembly line robots that escape from the factory and start a band, and the music's actually pretty excellent.
That is indeed Yuri Lane. (www.yurilane.com) He's currently living here in Chicago. I tracked him down for a beatbox project I'm working on and he's pretty much one of the coolest and most talented artists I've met. He's performing at the Hiphop Theatre Festival in NYC on 15 June at the Dance Theatre Workshop on W. 16th. You should definitely see him live.
Two other cool beatboxers I met are Tim Barsky (www.timbarsky.com) and Kid Beyond (www.kidbeyond.com), both from San Fransisco. Barsky does beatboxing with a flute and Kid Beyond uses Ableton Live on stage to do multitracked beatboxing stuff that's pretty incredible.
