FreeRepublic is a discussion forum, not a blog. they even say it on their home page. (It's not even a good discussion forum, and has been way too heavily moderated over the years.) Blogs should not get any credit for this.
Most university libraries subscribe to Lexis-Nexis, so go to your nearby state university and access it from their terminals (it's called "Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe"). Newslibrary and Proquest is also usually carried at university libraries.
My favorite obscure one is laexaminer (@laexaminer.com)/laexaminer. It works on most sites except the LA Times (when they disabled the account) and Washington Post. It goes back to the old LA Examiner blog run by Matt Welch.
