Definitely fake, but definitely hilarious. The picture of the guy doing a wacky pose in front of Schapelle's cell made me lawl.

Meredithea, I think you may be thinking about this: "No 'Risky Business' for Cruise, Holmes"

Looks like there’ll be no hanky panky for Mr. Top Gun. Tom Cruise’s new lady love has reportedly said that she wants to remain a virgin until she gets married.

In "Captain Cook's Endeavor Journal Online"

I love you. Seriously, I've been on a Cook kick for the last few months and this is just amazing. Thank you thank you thank you!

I feel inclined to say that the picture that accompanies "terror on the airlines" isn't a terrorist act. It's PSA flight 182 shortly after it hit a Cessna 172 that strayed into its airspace. Dumbass Cessna pilot jacked up the PSA flight and knocked it out of the sky, killing nearly 200 people and destroying a shitload of houses on the ground. Also, the thing that always bothered me about this song was that he spends the first 3/4 of the song singing about events from 1950 to 1963, and then the last 1/4 spans 1963 to 1989. A little weighted in favor of things that boomers went through as chijjren, but maybe that's the point.

In "“How To Do The Asian Squat”"

Asian squat ... feh, whoever made this movie hasn't traveled much, I guess. My friends and I refer to it as the Third World Squat. Our reference data points come from the Middle East, Cameroon and Eastern Africa, Eritrea, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, Taiwan, and China. Southeast Asia definitely doesn't have a monopoly on superior squat technology.

In "How To Build A Universe That Doesn't Fall Apart Two Days Later"

Damn, I was hoping for more edu-muh-cated Mofites to post on this topic. :} Terribly interesting essay, though I don't know enough of PKD to know if he was winding up the Xians, agreeing with them, or just sitting back and laughing at everyone.

Tangentially related, if you enjoyed the sites in this post you owe it to yourself to take a couple hours and read Mother Earth Mother Board, by Neal Stephenson. It's about laying wires across the earth. Fascinating fascinating stuff.

Looks like she took pictures of her TV back in 1969, too. Probably ran through most of a roll outside and then wasted the rest of it while watching TV -- or maybe her daughter did. With the piss-poor scanning job she did, it's hard to tell what's in the pictures at all. Get someone to scan the negative, post a high-res scan, and then we can set about debunking in earnest.

In "Curious George"

I don't believe anyone has mentioned it yet, but Good News by Edward Abbey is another good post-apocalyptic novel. Sorta Monkeywrench Gang meets Mad Max.
