Personally, I'd go to China just to experience something weird. Freaky culture, all sorts of stuff you don't understand and so on. Doesn't really matter if the buildings are shiny (although some not-so-shiny ones would be cool) as long as the people and the food is the same. Still, excellent post.

In Norway it is stricly shoes off everywhere, even with most people having solid wood floors. I went to Svalbard (island roughly halfway between Scandinavia and the North Pole) a few weeks ago and there people even took their shoes off before entering most public buildings. They claimed it made for better indoor climate and smaller cleaning bills. It should be said, however, that this is a place where you can enter a bank wearing a ski mask and carrying a rifle without anyone thinking it odd. Polar bears everywhere!

Solaris is the most enjoyable science fiction novel I've ever read. Films weren't half bad either. .

Just a bit of background: This is a clip from a Norwegian TV show from the 90s called Lille Lørdag ("small saturday"). The guy on the right and the one on the left are two of the most famous comedians in Norway - not sure about the guy in the middle.
