Sweet. Monkeyfilter (or Safari) still remembers my login and password even though it's been like years.
Ooga Booga: Did you go to one of the Unis when you were there? You left in 95? I went to CMU, but I didn't get there until 97.
meredithea: I have nothing practical to tell you, but I do miss Pittsburgh. I hated it when I first moved there from NYC, but it grew on me. Like a fungus. I saw my first opera there. And the student productions I've seen there were better than any of the theatre I've seen here in SF. It's a surprisingly rich place, culturally. Good food too, and a lot of it the cheap, real, stuff sold from the back of vans.
And it's so amazingly cheap. I also have a friend who bought a 3 br 2.5 bath house for 5 figures.
They also started some serious development on the waterfront when I left.
Anyway, Shadyside seems like a good place to start, but my info is dated as well. Congrats, and good luck!
I just arrived at my folk's place, and I am envious of your resolve. Everytime I get together with the family I swear loudly it will be the last any of them see of me (which made my mom cry the last time), but here I am again.
At least I get along with the cat...
Oh, and btw, New York is unseasonably warm right now.
I was reading up on the Falklands war because of this post, and there was this amazing note at the bottom of the Wikipedia article--more British soldiers have committed suicide (ostensibly due to post-traumatic stress disorder), than were actually killed in action.
Oh, I completely forgot about my other favorite drink, which I haven't had in a while because... I completely forgot about it. Damned alcohol
Vodka and plum wine (or plum sake, if you can't get it) in equal proportions, shaken and served straight in a martini glass. Or also nice served with crushed ice, on a hot day.
Cali, (Maker's Mark) manhattans are my drink of choice as well, but it's been hard to get a good one in SF. I think the bars I like going to aren't really the bars where one orders cocktails. The Tunnel Top does a really nice one with real cherries, which I like.
I saw for the first time last night two people drinking a carbomb--which is half a pint of Guinness, into which you drop a shotglass of Bailey's & Jameson's, and then slam, or suffer the messy consequences. (This doesn't seem like a drink you should be ordering if you're over 20.)
I think iTunes sharing only works between the same version numbers, i.e., everyone else needs to upgrade before you can see their library again.
Thats what happened at work, after the last round--someone sent out a company-wide email encouraging everyone to upgrade...
So I've been thinking about adopting an animal recently, and thought this might be perfect. I emailed the contact person listed and my message bounced back because her mailbox is full.
The more I think about it, the less I believe that this is actually true, for any number of reasons...
A full 1/3 of my coworkers are burners, and the office gets very quiet at the beginning of every September.
One of the guys was telling me about it, and he said that everyone he knows who has gone has had a life-changing experience.
I kind of like my life as it is...
I tried to sign up as "Daniel" but FireFox helpfully filled in my full name, and I didn't realize it had happened until I started playing. BAD BROWSER!!
No, you are most definitely not the only person, immlass. "It's like a bank, only they're unregulated! How can I possibly lose!"
God almighty, I miss Kozmo.
Yes, this list is... curious.
