The Flying Mobulas of the Sea of Cortez
  • That is simply amazing, dng. Thanks for that. I've snorkeled with these before (ala image 3 in his gallery) off the coast of Baja Conception but had no idea they could "fly" as it were. They are beautiful just to watch in the water, graceful and elegant. Now, if we can coordinate with our new Mobula brothers, perhaps we stand a chance against the future Giant Squid revolution.

  • Amazing. How on earth do they get up enough speed to do this?
  • *writes Johnny Hazard's name on list*
  • ))) !!! The photos are great.
  • Mecha Mobula
  • those photos are brilliant - otherwordly, alien looking creatures to be sure and very cool.
  • I snorkled around some eagle rays off the florida keys in high school. It's another world under there. And sometimes above there, apparently. Wow.
  • Once I snorkeled in a stingray feeding area; it was a smallish group, and while we were told they were of the non-dangerous variety, the basic sight of watching them dart under the surface and almost hug you, showing their smile inches away from your mask, is unnerving. Watching them jump and soar above the water must be quite a sight.
