Derek Jarman's Garden at Prospect Cottage. Derek Jarman, after learning he was HIV positive moved to Prospect Cottage, Dungeness, Kent, under the shadow of the nuclear power station. It was here that he wrote his autobiography and created his extraordinary garden, incorporating debris picked up from the beach. He died of AIDS in 1994. More beautiful photos here, here, here, here, and here.

I love that he had a poem by John Dunne on the side of his cottage. Maybe one day I could have a poem be Beeswacky similarly installed on my house (if I ever own one).

  • Dungeness aint all that bad. Spooky area though.
  • That's a nice photoset.
  • Thanks, Zanshin. I remember seeing Jarman interviewed about this, but I've never seen pictures before.
  • nice post, Zanshin. thank you.
  • Plegmund, if you have links to that interview I'd love to see it. Also, here is the book that introduced me to the garden. My wife, an avid gardener, brought it home one day, it is now my son's current favorite book.
  • The Garden was filmed there, too.
