Things look cool close up. These are fun to look at - I wish I could read the text...
  • So weird, I looked at those pictures of dragonflies and went out to check the washing on the line, there was a dead dragonfly on the ground.
  • This is awesome, and not a little creepy.
  • Maybe you could smoke it in this.
  • Jeff Simmonds: "Smoke that and it'll really get you out there!"
  • Jeff Simmons tries to corrupt Napoleon Murphy Brock by showing him a lewd dance and suggesting that he smoke a dead dragonfly...
  • This Jeff Simmonds? Dr Jeff Obadiah Simmonds is a writer, speaker and the lead singer in the rollicking folk band Obadiah and the Minor Prophets. He has lectured at BCNZ Wellington and the Salvation Army Training College. He has also published a series of little booklets on the Bible, theology and Church history.
  • No. This Jeff Simmons. I spelt it wronge.
  • Ah - its Zappa related - of course I don't understand!
  • [nice pictures] No worries pikestrider I put the first section of text through a translator for you and it made perfect sense except for a few words: Because my commenting manager only allows short geleuter, and possibly for that other visitor also nice to know. The name has arisen because these animals were frequently observed in the buurt of horses where they did themselves credit balance to the present flies. It attempted to eat Chyren's underclothing as it was hanging on the washing line but to no avail. Because of this if he wants to put and because he was rather visible than the effectively stinging mosquitos and fly he rapidly as a culprit was already designated when a horse reacted as he was put. That they sting or bite however is a fable, they are not in state the skin of people or horse gone to bite, them can do one attempt nibble at the most a beetle meaninglessly.
  • No!!! /flees
  • I can't believe no one has commented about the 69ing dragonflies yet.
  • Beautiful!
  • Oooo.... very nifty.
  • here's a translator for you...kinda wonky though...YMMV
  • Mr. Knickerbocker, I was about to. For a second there I thought I'd be the first, but that would be rediculous. This is also kinda hot. That is, if you think insects getting it on is hot.
  • Dragonflies and other flying bugs however worthy are seldom given hugs-- which for insects aren't the stuff of love or glamour -- no, embraces are less interesting when you live encased in armour and spend life mostly on the wing looking for tasty things to eat and dodging those who do the eating. .
  • pretty
  • Fascinating Nature Fact: Fat dragonflies are prettier. Deposits of insect fat under the skin contribute to the prismatic effect of the coloration - layers and layers of thin clear scales with oily deposits in between give them that shimmering iridescent coloring. Like oil sheen floating on water. The coloration (because it is directly affected by nutritional status) cannot be faked - no way for a skinny, malnourished dragonfly to pretend it is a big strong one - and thus the females have a solid, highly reliable visual cue they can use to choose a mate. These oily deposits break down in preservatives - which is why they never look as shiny once they have been collected...
  • Greasy kid stuff.
  • Oh, sure, but when I post MY close-ups, people get the cops involved... sheesh!!
  • Nice images! And Mr. Knickerbocker, clearly it appears to be one-way action going on in that picture, technically not 69'ng.
  • Well, maybe a bit of simultaneous navel penetration.
  • Great. Now we're going to get 128 posts on bug sex. Preverts.
  • Beware Of Insex!
  • It seems to me that "Bug Sex" belongs in the cool band name thread...
