I waited forever to watch American Splendor and now I come to sing its virtues.

Splendor is the story of Harvey Pekar and the catalogue of petty drudgery, pointless loathing, koan-like observations and absurd non-sequiters that make up his (and your) daily life. Pekar was, effectively, blogging before blogging was blogging. Pekar's (along with his wife, Joyce Brabner, and their adopted child) actually started REALLY blogging recently, bringing the circle to a close. I've been reading Pekar since I was a lil' kid and seeing him finally hit "the big time" is very gratifying.Get the movie; it's a winner.

  • absurd non-sequiters *snickers*
  • oh, bite me. please append a "u" where the second "e" is, 'k?
  • I want to see this - I'll have to wait til it comes out on DVD. Its good, then?
  • It's very good. But then I've been a fan of the comic for 20 years or so, so I'm hardly an unprejudiced observer.
  • dng - it is out on video. Saw it last week.
  • Would enjoy seeing more of Ron Therien's work. Great big hand of bananas, forky!
  • dng - it is out on video. Unfortunately, not in the backwater that is England. It was only released at the cinema here a month ago. And wasn't shown at any near me, either. Bloody Odeon.
  • dng - *cough* Bit Torrent *cough*
  • Excellent pick,b forky! And Paul Giamatti (sp?) who played Mr. Pekar was just on a "Fresh Air with Terry Gross" rerun yesterday (Friday the 13 of Feb.); go to NPR.org to access it. Nice fellow, interesting actor...
