Cheney Gets Heckled - and Laughs it Off The VP doesn't mind getting the f-bomb shot at him it seems...
  • Well, he'd look like a hypocrite if he didn't, so...
  • You think he as talking about John Kerry when he started saying "maybe he's a friend of john—"?
  • It's obvious when taken in the context of the insult. Holmes...he meant John Holmes
  • Cheney's probably really, really accustomed to being told to go fuck himself.
  • That's what first infuriated me when watching the clip, his unworried reaction, the quick, partisan joke (obviously it had to be 'Kerry'), and then the laughter, 'ha ha, poor loony guy, what were we talking about?'. But yes, what one could expect? For him to have the guy dragged in front of the live cameras, and address his grievances, start some debate? Yeah, sure. Cheney was lucky there's no pie around, or he would have gotten a faceful.
  • The Secret Service killed the heckler.
  • did he say friend of john or friend of kanye?
  • Dunno what you guys are worried about, Cheney was made to look a fool in that clip.
  • I find it really curious that the guy says Mr. Cheney. Who says Mr. when they're telling someone to fuck themselves?
  • Who says Mr. when they're telling someone to fuck themselves? I thought I said Dick.
  • Who says Mr. when they're telling someone to fuck themselves? You're playing with fire there, Mr. Knickerbocker! ;)
  • heh, you have remarkable restraint quidnunc.
  • That's the first time anyone has ever said that about me :(
  • or should I say Mr. quidnunc?
  • Actually I would prefer you to refer to me as you would a Duke: "our right trusty and entirely beloved cousin" or just "your grace".
  • Who says Mr. when they're telling someone to fuck themselves? The heckler is described as (and does sound like he could be) a Mississippi man, so maybe someone with a deeply ingrained sense of that famed southern courtesy and respect. Or maybe someone who held Dick in high esteem up until recently.
  • The juxtaposition of courteous title and offensive remark makes for a more classy insult, as in: "You, sir, are an ass!"
  • He doesn't sound Mississipian to me at all. Add the fact that he uses "Mr." and I'd guess that it's someone used to calling him "Mr. Cheney". Which would make it either someone who works for him, someone who works for the media, or maybe a local politician offended by Cheney's recent remarks. Any of these is speculation, we'll just have to wait for him to get out of Guatanamo Bay to find out the truth. The juxtaposition of courteous title and offensive remark makes for a more classy insult, as in: "You, sir, are an ass!" Let me try that: You right trusty and entirely restrained sick fuck, your grace! Am I more classy now? I can't tell.
  • *sobs*
  • I thought the "John" might be "Jon", as in, "Jon Stewart. But that would require Chaney to be a lot more hip than I think he is.
  • Maybe they couldn't call him Dick without giggling.
  • Dick breezed right past the heckle, until he was prompted to react by the news guy. Which simply shows that ignoring the peasantry is his natural response. And what's with the tilt to the right (the literal one, which seems new, as opposed to the political one, which certainly isn't)? Did he have another stroke that day? Are cardiac episodes just as much a part of his daily routine as Cheerios in the Blood of the Innocents?
  • "Dick breezed" I like that. I may change my name to "Dick Breeze."
  • "Are cardiac episodes just as much a part of his daily routine as Cheerios in the Blood of the Innocents?" I dearly hope so.
  • I watched the clip in question and the heckler didn't sound very serious about it. It seemed more like an attention-grabbing ploy than an honest attempt to vent any anger. Pity. It was a wasted chance.
  • Where was George? I enjoyed the discussion on CNN:
Cafferty: The vice-president said that was the first time he heard it. Didn't he utter the same phrase to Senator Patrick Leahy on the floor of the United States Senate? Blitzer: Yes. Cafferty: So it wasn't the first time he heard it. Blitzer: The first time he heard it in the context of this trip. Cafferty: You know what, I bet it's not the last.
  • By the way, he's a local ER doctor whose house was destroyed in the hurricane, and was forced to drive 20 minutes out of his way to get to his property due to Cheney's photo-op. He also has his own band.
  • Good find, wtd!
  • Warning: waitingtoderail's link features both audio and Comic Sans!
  • (The second link, to the band page.)
  • Thanks for that TDM - I sometimes forget some people have internet access at work, unlike my ridiculous place of employment.
  • He needs to take that off ebay and sell it to Jon Stewart.
  • Well, it's been taken off ebay.
  • Wonder what the story is there....
  • Sounds like J. Mascis singing on those Yoon tracks.
  • From the heckler's ebay description: I had/have no intention of harming anyone but merely wanted to echo Mr. Cheney's infamous words back at him. At that moment I noticed the secret service guys with a panic stricken look on their faces like they were about to tackle me so I calmly began walking back to my house waved to one of them and said "Have a nice day". Well, he's a local, that last bit (and even the way he calls him Mr. in writing) does make the heckler sound like a polite kind of guy, and the part about echoing Cheney's words made me look up the 2004 quote to see if it might be, "Go fuck yourself Mr. Leahy." It isn't.
  • According to this account at OpEdNews.com, military police went to the heckler's (destroyed) home and cuffed/'detained' him while obtaining his contact information. [via]
  • The video was removed again. Here's the third try.
  • Aaaand removed again.
