Something Awful staggers back, well, not quite. Richard "Lowtax" Whateverhislastnameis shares the supportive e-mails he's recieved.

Not a big SA fan normally. But this is a unique moment for them.

  • I can't get to it. What's the deal?
  • Huh. Works for me still. Their servers drowned in New Orleans, so whatever they're using now may not be equipped to handle high traffic.
  • He's moving the server to Kansas City. If the get hit by a tornada soon, we'll know who to blame Katrina on.
  • Wow, no shortage of fucktards in the universe. Those are some choice e-mails.
  • Man, I almost never get emails like that. You guys just aren't trying.
  • You just get phonecalls from wingnuts in the middle of the night.
  • Those were the days. Thank god they're over.
  • *knocks on wood*
  • Ow.
  • You know, he's jumped on hundreds of others the same way. He's goes around starting shit with people, totally unprovoked. And he sends all his goons over to fuck with people, too. He created this. People are giving him shit now becase he started shit with them. It's no suprise, and he's not being victimized by them.
  • I wish "Lowtax" all the best, but I have to agree with Knickerbocker in that it is not a surprise. The first time I ever saw SA they had posted the website of a young kid who was making homebrew computer games. The games were very simple and crude, but one has to start somewhere -- especially if he is one who isn't old enough to go to university and take compsci. SA was cruel, and his minions who harrassed the kid were even more cruel. The kid pulled his site due to the harrassment. So, yeah, I'm not surprised if he's getting shit thrown back at him. It too is wrong and cruel, but not surprising.
  • Internet Tough Guy finds soul; video at eleven.
  • I'm not really familiar with something awful. Why the nasty correspondence? Is he anit-tax or something?
  • Short: Something Awful makes fun of the Internet. Long: A lot of what the site Something Awful (SA) is about is making fun of various subcultures on the Internet. Furries, goths, anime fans, Fundamentalist Christians, Scientologists. One of the most notable ways is the Awful Site of the Day, in which a site was selected for ridicule. People who read the site, and posted on the forums, called Goons, would descend on the site in mass, and cause havoc through postings to associated message boards and guestbooks. Even if they didn't, the SA would usually mock the site with great skill, much to the consternation of above groups. This usually led to angry emails, and mocking of said emails. I have mixed feelings about SA. In many ways, it was great to see pompous and self righteous groups be taken down a peg. Especially the furries. But many a time they picked on people who really didn't deserve it. People who stayed in their corner of the Internet, and although strange and creepy, didn't really bother anyone. It's the difference between making fun of a hypocritical Christian, and making fun of a bum on the street. SA crossed that line many a time.
  • Ggrrr. I don't know why I'm not able to get to it. Very strange.
  • Furries are pompous and self-righteous? I'm having trouble picturing a furry with a monocle saying "La-ti-da! I'm high and mighty and look down my cute little bunny nose at you!" as he checks his pocket watch.
  • thanks to VertexOfLife's FPP, Nevermind
  • What are furries? Can't we get SA and Littlegreenfootballs and Fark to host in the same city, then raze the place?
  • never mind. I feel so superior, now.
  • That's the great thing about furries. They're kind of like the Philosopher's Stone of geekdom.
  • Is it time for a tagline? I think so. MonkeyFilter: People who [stay] in their corner of the Internet, and although strange and creepy, didn't really bother anyone.
  • At least they don't practice Misleading Labeling by calling themselves "Something Good" or "Best of the Web"...
  • Furries are better known than they were after being the theme of a CSI episode.
  • At least they don't practice Misleading Labeling by calling themselves "Something Good" or "Best of the Web"... DUDE! Burn!
  • Yeah, I hate what SA has done in the past when it comes to some of the unsavory "Awful Site of the Day" links that pointed the way to harrassment of thirteen year old girls and such, BUT I'm starting to gain some sympathy for Lowtax after reading his posts of the past few days. Especially the entry on David Duke's response to the charges of racism in NO. Sure, Lowtax is an asshole and probably always will be, but man, sometimes he can be a funny, poignant asshole.
  • Oops, my mistake. The David Duke post was written by Zack Parsons. So, I guess, Lowtax is still just an asshole?
  • Everyone has some good in them, and Lowtax is showing he has more good than I ever gave him credit for before. However, PayPal, and Ms. Whitman, whom I peripherally know personally to be better, show themselves in an incredibly poor light, any fear of fraud aside. When it comes to something like this, you turn off the robots and get the humans involved. This is akin to Condi's shoes and GW's guitar lesson. She is operating on business as usual, when there are pressing needs at hand.
