Right... but who would win in a fight between a Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus and a Northern California Sequoia Shark? /just askin'...
-
I wonder why just sharks? There are other fishes in the tank. Does the octopus deem smaller prey beneath its notice?
-
There are indeed other fish in the tank, but nothing says you're a badass like killing a shark with your bare tantacles.
-
Yeah, we all know who's wallet it is now...
-
What the fuck does he mean, "mere invertebrate"?
-
Squid: I think he means a "mere invertebrate" as opposed to the fearsome 24-tentacled, titanium armor-plated, laser mounted, cat tracked, bio-enhanced immortal Invertebrate of Death such as yourself, sir. Eaten any shark steak lately?
-
I thought neither were vertebrate.
-
Jeez, grow some backbone.
-
Sharks are vertebrates, jb, even though they're mostly cartilege.
-
Oh, thanks for explaining it to me BlueHorse. Shark Steak? I likes mine rare and quivering on the cartilege.
-
Wow. Remind me not to bite you, squid.... Unless you ask first.
-
That ain't no octopussy taken on shark bait.
-
Monkeyfilter: Nothing says you're a badass like killing a shark with your bare tantacles.
-
Why do octopuses get all the fun?
-
Hate to say it, but that fish in the video was to sharks as I am to a Navy S.E.A.L.
-
Sharks are poor sad ancient relics tha we humans are driving to extinction. They are not more badass than your local vulture. Interesting to see who would win in a fight between Bill Gates and Linus Torvalds.
-
That made my *day*. Octos rock.

Sharks are vertebrates, jb, even though they're mostly cartilege. posted by chimaera at 09:47PM UTC on August 27, 2005 Oh - I thought I had heard somewhere that they predate truly vertebrate fish, and they are their own kind of thing. But they are categorised with vertebrates?
-
As far as I know, vertebrates are animals that have a backbone, be it made of bone or cartilege. Sharks are an ancient order and pre-date a lot of fish out there, but they are still vertebrates.
-
But who wins between the Octopuses and the Jets? (Offhand, I'd say the Octopuses, just because with those extra limbs, they can snap a lot better during their big dance rumble...)
-
Dear Octo We could let ye use the garden pool in which to frolic and stay cool or ye could have the big horse pond in which to party and stay mellow For we'd be honoured by the company of such a cunnung fellow
-
Characteristics of vertebrates. If having a vertebral column (albeit an unossified one) isn't telling enough, there are also those giveaway great jaws, those signature Jaws. What if Spielberg had directed a movie called SUCKERS? With Roy Schieder as the sushi chef. "We're going to need more nori." -- Hmm, needs more work.

I'm happy to let the octopus take over while I swing in my hammock above the clover I'm not as fast as the octopus at sneak attacks without making a fuss he has his talents and I have mine and he can function immersed in brine but at staying put or writing verse an ocopus is bad or worse
-
BEEES! An octopus has many parts He's great at verse and visual arts You malign his octo-talent sadly inspiring this defense, which I do badly
-
Iambic octometer! Very subtle. I salute you.
-
the octopus shall never fail to slither out of tank or pail -- clap on the lid and sit upon it before he inks another sonnet!
