Formerly one of the sacred flowers of local Buddhism in Yunnan Collection of rare and interesting species from China, Myanmar (Burma), Vietnam and India. The Musella lasiocarpa is of the longest blooming flowers in the world. It's considered a banana plant from Yunnan and the Himalaya.

Curious to know if there any fellow lotus loving monkeys who cultivate lotus plants as a hobby.

  • How nice.
  • Ya Nan
  • What astonishing flowers! Thank you, chechebell, these are all new to me.
  • Hee! The Golden Lotus is also the name of a major character in one of China's more, um, ribald classical novels, Jin Ping Mei. One of the wives of the main character is named Pan Jin Lian (the last two words literally meaning Golden Lotus). Her first husband, whom she and her second husband killed, was the brother of Wu Song, one of the 108 Heroes of the Marsh, another classical work. The term "3 inch Golden Lotus" also refers to the ideal length of bound feet, a practice carried out in imperial China. /derail
