How to Reinstall Windows Without Losing Your Data
and How to Reinstall Windows XP Without Having to Reactivate With Microsoft.

Glad to have the information though I hope I needn't use either. Printed 'em out. Just in case. Thanks, Chy.

I love this Freudian slip from the second link: . . . Microsoft is the target for a large percentage of the piracy due to their dominance in the operating system and office productivity software markets. They have a right to try to stop or at least control that privacy . . .

What about How To Upgrade your computer without being forced to by XP again? Because that's the article I need.

Whoohoo! Fight the Power!™

What about How To Upgrade your computer Mr. Knickerbocker, what do you mean by "upgrade"? What I don't like is that I own a copy of XP but am not allowed to migrate it to another PC. I own an HP, with XP install CDs, that I wiped and installed Linux on. I'd love to install that XP on another machine, but alas, I'm not allowed to.
-
what do you mean by "upgrade"? I'm using a 400 meghertz processor right now. If I get a faster processor, I'll be forced to buy another XP. It's impossible to upgrade my processor without a new motherboard, which will require a different kind of RAM than I'm using. Microsoft doesn't approve of me doing this.

Ah, the "it's not the same computer anymore" crapola. Gotta love it. I'm sure teh haxx0rz have found a way around it, but I'll be damned if I know.

Microsoft doesn't approve of me doing this. God that is so wrong.
-
I had to reactivate after installing new RAM. I mean, come on.

thanks Chy!
