Take that first train to Nashville, and I'll meet you at the station. Jonathan Demme will be shooting a concert film of Neil Young next week in Nashville. So, here's your chance to become a speck in the audience, maybe get yourself on imdb. And it's Neil, man! NEIL!

Hopefully, Jonathan will employ the same direction he used on Swimming to Cambodia -- just point the camera, make sure there's enough film, and let the guy do his thing. As well, someone needs to do a nose check on Neil before he goes out so he doesn't look like he did in Last Waltz. Man, I soooooo want to be there, but can't. Neil! NEIL! WhoooOOOOooOOooOOOO!!!

  • Hmm. I can see the Ryman Auditorium from my office window here in downtown Nashville. I just phoned the former home of the Grand Ole Opry - Neil's concert is a private show and you can't buy tickets for it. Shoot.
  • Yeah, I looked online for tics, couldn't find any. Even though I couldn't go anyway. Dammit.
  • interesting fpp.. if the concert were in "clarksville", and it was the "last train" instead of the "next train" would the documentary be about the Monkees instead? And it is posted here at Monkeyfilter..hmmm..coincidence? I think not... please, attempt to avoid confusing old people with mixed lyric/singer/town fpp's...it takes us a whole day to recover from that kind of thing!
  • The Ryman is an incredible venue, saturated with the energy of musical genuises of present and yore. It's a great place to see a show, and it feels extremely intimate despite it's size. Fabulous place for Neil to play and be documented. Sucks about the closed shows. (Hi Mickey, former Nash Vegan here. Eat some Fat Moe's for me.)
  • btw, Demme also shot and directed Stop Making Sense, possibly the best concert film ever.
  • Next up, Demme goes to the cemetary where Jerry Garcia is buried and shoots a documentary depicting Jerry's grave.
  • Let me explain: I LOVE Neil Young -- among my recent CD purchases was Neil's long-unavailable On the Beach album -- but IMO the big difference between this and Stop Making Sense is that Stop Making Sense documented a musical act that was relevant at the time it was documented.
  • The Ryman is an incredible venue So I hear. $30+ for a concert doesn't cater to us poor college kids. /rant The city has some fantastic, cheap dives for alternative rock -- guess I just have to accept that Neil isn't going to play in a parking lot.
  • Demme also directed a concert film of Robyn Hitchcock called "Storefront Hitchcock." Never saw it, but I was always impressed that he did it.
  • Neil Young along with Joni Mitchell, the two best Canadian music talents ever!!!! Stop Making Sense documented a musical act that was relevant at the time it was documented. You mean it's no longer relevant? WAAAH! I'll have to stop watching it. But seriously though the first twenty minutes and the last twenty minutes are still fantastic, no?
  • Neil Young along with Joni Mitchell, the two best Canadian music talents ever!!!! SoryBored, meet Stompin' Tom Connors.
  • Two words: Celine. Dion.
  • Yup, those are two words alright.
  • Hmmmm. Stompin' Tom eh? He's got some fine sing-a-longs but....can't... quite.... fit him into ...the same category as Neil and Joni....
  • I have to admit I personally rank Anne Murray above Neil. But Neil squeaks in above Jann Arden.
