Computer crashing? Maybe you're cursed... A little quirky post from our good friends up north. I can't believe someone's spent 26 years on this... weird if it were true

I personally subscribe to the theory that the people aren't coming clean with their computer usage, or they are constantly shocking their computer with static electricity... Still it would be crazy if it were true.....

  • That link caused my computer to crash! *shakes fist*
  • Ummm... maybe I AM cursed... the correct URL is here... DUHHH
  • Along the lines of this post I think...
  • Although, I do personally know someone who falls victim to this strange "phenomena." I always joke that she has a "magnetic aura" that vexes any computer within a ten-foot radius of herself... She just laughs in acknowledgment.
  • Reminded me of that (maybe apocryphal) old story about a computer at an university research center that would freeze or malfunction whenever a specific female researcher was present. Turned out the static from her bra's metal wiring was meddling with the sensitive eqipment. Guess the obvious solution pleased all other researchers to no end... or perhaps it all was a perverted AI's plot?
  • PEAR?! Oh no, not these guys these guys again. Flapdoodle artists who won't put their money where their mouth is when it comes to scientific verification of their "anomalies". Smart cookies to use the name Princeton to add credibility to a questionable outfit.
  • Shut up! I hack you!
  • Ha! Hack deflected by Bowing Cranes Block! Now prepare for Plucking Eyebrow Strike! HIIIIIYYYYAAAA!
  • *throws bucket of ice water on fighting Monkeys*
  • Subscribing to the Randi 'challenge' would prove nothing, scientifically.
  • ITS YOU !! HOW ARE YOU GENTLEMEN !!
  • WHAT YOU SAY?!
  • YOUR SCIENCE ARE ALL JAMSHEET!
  • "They're not always readily admitting what they've done, especially if they have the sense they shouldn't have done it. It's an issue of admission of guilt." Amen to that. As a Mac tech, I will attest to the fact that users with these issues are almost always at fault. When you deal with them one-on-one, you invariably manage to pull out of them the real reason the machine is having issues -- and it's almost always a PEBKAC* error. Sometimes getting the information is like pulling teeth. I can only suppose they're embarrassed, but it sure is frustrating to have to tease information from them, when all I want to do is get the damn machine back up and running, and them out the door. More than once, I've worked on Macs running OS X that crash at boot time, only to find a folder tucked away on it titled "Mach stuff." The customer just didn't like the way the extra files looked when booted into OS 9. *Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair
  • Beware the cursed machine! Although a lot of specific software behaviours, such as viruses, can most definitely be traced to users bad habits, anyone who's had extensive experience with computer hardware will be leary about the 'curse'. Every decent computer tech I've known has had experience with 'cursed machines' which exhibit the same types of errors even after you replace every piece of hardware but the casing. Luckily this sort of behaviour usually seems to happen while the machine's still under warranty, so swap that sucker!
  • Well that's Macs for ya!
  • Saving Humanity (((en Espanol!))) (Sorry, couldn't find the original English version online.) And the latest Randi on PEAR.
