Unborn babies carry pollutants
Unborn babies in the United States are soaking in a stew of chemicals, including mercury, gasoline byproducts and pesticides, according to a report released yesterday. . . "If ever we had proof that our nation's pollution laws aren't working, it's reading the list of industrial chemicals in the bodies of babies who have not yet lived outside the womb". . .
The report, by the Environmental Working Group, is based on tests of 10 samples of umbilical-cord blood taken by the American Red Cross. They found an average of 287 contaminants in the blood, including mercury, fire retardants, pesticides and the Teflon chemical PFOA. Okay so maybe it's just these 10 babies. Maybe they're going to be superheroes like the Fantastic Four or something. apologies for the NewsFiliter, I just thought this was pretty stark.

This explains how Bush got back in.

Unborn babies carry pollutants Fight pollution! Kill all the unborn babies!
-
Fight pollution! Kill all the unborn babies! HAHAHAHA! I knew there was a joke in there, but my brain wasn't putting it together until I read that! thanks! Also, I want to post this not-really-so-related-story-except-it's-about-a-newborn-baby link, but it's not so FPP worthy, so here it is. Holy God. A woman has been arrested on child neglect charges after giving birth while drunk.
-
That's not good.
-
mm. None of it is. It amazes me how people just take it in. I expect a sum total of 0 protests or even comments (you people have way too much time on your hands, obviously). We'll just buy some bottled water for $2 and watch some more TV. Jobs, y'know. Can't fire the people who make the pollutants we use in the manufacture of plastic dog vomit and other necessaries. Mercury I can see (from fish) but gasoline?? Sheeit.
-
but gasoline?? Well, there's always congress to protect us...
-
That's fucking scary.

This issue here is much larger even than unborn babies. If you look at daily samplings of toxins that are emitted in urbanized areas, it's staggering indeed. My background is in environmental planning - unfortunately, it tends to get booted to the back seat in the name of god-almighty, Profit Margins. Plastic, man's friend ya know! Oh, don't forget those pretty SUVs. And of course there's always by-product chemical waste belching into our rivers. Ho-hum! Say, we need more antibacterial cotton swabs in this thread! Bah, it depresses me endlessly. *tickles third nipple with my extra appendage*

Just further proof that pregnant women should not eat unborn babies.

So I'm out walking the dogs and I see my neighbor working in his yard. He's a retired cop and he always stops me to talk about whatever conspiracy theory he's heard about on the internet. He's telling me about Karl Rove and how Novak is a democrat plant. I didn't want to get into politics with him. (The malamute really had to crap). I mention this story about the pollution showing up in unborn babies to get him off politics. He says "Well, that's like that aids thing". I look at him funny and he explains "Aids was caused by natures response to so many people dieting and wanting to be thin. This pollution in babies thing is natures response to the abortion debate." There was a dead silence as we stared at each other for a minute or so. I really gotta move soon.

Note to self: contact Hollywood about a retired cop reality show...

Give him a ham radio for Christmas? But like, make it one of those "Talk to Elmo" radios? Tell him you can't use it anymore because you keep picking up what you believe to be encoded messages and it's freaking you out. report back here. break!
-
Argh, I also have a neighbor who used to be a cop (I think he served for 5 years), and he does the same thing. We have all learned not to take the bait, and it is made easier by the fact that he is the only republican on the block (except for George, who just hates everyone).
-
This is really scary! Also, I read the title as "Unicorn babies cause pollution."
-
Fucking democrat unicorns from space, they're always shitting on my lawn.
-
the blue weighs in. As i find, after the fact. As it were.

Here's the EWG report.

Also, I read the title as "Unicorn babies cause pollution." Meredithea you are not alone. I too saw little baby unicorns carrying around sacks of polutants.

Argh, I also have a neighbor who used to be a cop (I think he served for 5 years), and he does the same thing. My sheriff brother-in-law once informed me and my hoosband that all abducted children were used in satanic rituals, which are always covered up by lawyers and judges. Lesson for the day: don't give cops access to the Internets. That is all.

Monkeyfilter: I didn't want to get into politics with him. (The malamute really had to crap).
-
zyzelle: you might want to point your in-law to the FBI's 1992 investigation of Chilhood Satanic Ritual Abuse. They weren't able to identify any. On a tangent: the other week I met a delightfully weird older lady who claimed she was once a nurse. She is traveling around the US in search of alternative "healers." Doctors, on the other hand, have been a huge dissapointment for her. She said the medical profession doesn't try to cure people since there is no money to be made if people aren't sick. Instead, they string people along keeping them sick in order to make more money. That's why she got out of the nursing profession -- she "couldn't stand the lies and deceit anymore". That, and doctors kill people. She also told me dolphins have been communicating with us but the government is keeping this dolphin wisdom a secret. They're keeping the E.T.s a secret, too. Crazy people are neat!
