Holy shit!!!
But on the other hand (no pun intended), what exactly did he think was going to happen one day?
holy. fucking. shit.
Folks, it's exactly what you think it is. Don't click on the link unless you want to watch some fairly explicit violence and the sight of a man probably losing the use of an arm. I don't know if I should have put in a spoiler warning for that, but it's fairly traumatic to watch, I think.
Poor guy, but those are the risks of the job, I guess - not to say that anyone deserves that to happen to them. That being said, I can't really tell for sure, but it looks like he may have accidentally touched the inside of the croc's mouth, triggering the croc's mouth closing reflex. Good god.
What's the deal with slap-tapping the croc's nose just before the ill-fated hand trick? I guess he can at least be glad he didn't stick his head in there. Betcha he retired from croc-taming after that.
in india, they have a saying: don't invite an elephant trainer for dinner unless you have room in your living room for an elephant.
in florida, every once in awhile they have to put an alligator down because he kills a dog or tries to attack someone or actually does drag some q-tip down and under. what we always find out, in retrospect, is that some clown (usually an elderly woman) had been feeding the gator as if it were a duck or goose.
rule 1: do not feed the gators unless you are willing to have someone else's death on your conscious.
rule 2: do not stick your hand in a gator's mouth unless you are willing to lose it.
no pity here! that boy had it coming!
I think the DNS for Monkeyfilter and Rotten.com got mixed up somewhere.
This needed more detailed warnings, tellurian, imho. Like what exactly we were going to see, also that it was an embedded wmv. Doesn't bother me as I rejoice in seeing humans get their comeuppance from animals, but I think others may not be so inclined.
more accurate headline:
Biting the hand that pokes at you with a big stick, then whaps you on your nose several times while you patiently sit plotting the only revenge option you have, considering that you lack opposable thumbs.
Every so often, I come across something like this on the internet, and I *know* it's going to be awful, and at least half the time I watch it anyway. A crocodile biting a guy's lower arm off is a fairly gruesome event, but even more gruesome is the fascination that stuff like this exerts as a form of cheap entertainment.
>I rejoice in seeing humans get their comeuppance from animals
How 'bout that 'When Animals Attack' bit with the deer stomping the crap out of some hunter? Now THAT was good fun.
I think that it was the verbal taunting that did him in. I don't understand the language, but I understood the tone. I think that the crocodile was used to the tapping and smacking, but the taunting just got to him.
some fairly explicit violence
I see no violence there. Not picking on you, ooga_booga, just my opinion...
the taunting just got to him
I think he was making fun of the croc's school uniform.
Betcha he retired from croc-tamingcroc-taunting after that.
Awww, that's nothing! Here in Indonesia there's a lovely video selling at one of the local markets of a croc ingesting an entire human. The video goes on to show villagers dissecting the croc and removing the human body parts, piece-by-piece... It has proven to be quite a crowd pleaser (usually displayed on a large-screen TV). Interesting to note that such graphic macabre video is quite the norm in Indo. Whereas in Western cultures, a few drops of blood and you're busy plucking up fainted people.
I would pay money to see that video.
I do accept PayPal ;-)
OK, but was the person alive when the croc attacked? Will I actually see someone killed by a beast? If they were already dead, the deal's off. I have standards, you know.
High standards indeed!
*shakes finger*
It has been a while since I've watched it. If my memory serves me correctly, the video begins at the tail-end of the unlucky sot being gulped down while struggling. Oh, what dinner-pleasing goodness!
I didn't say they were high, just that I had some...
Yeah. Better warning definitely indicated. Fortunately I always read comments in threads where there are dubious descriptions, but if I had watched that I would have been really really pissed at such a poor description and warning.
Not so pretty now, are you, croc-handler?
Interesting.... and, the warning wasn't really needed, let's face it, the word "Bite" was there in the fpp and a "not for the faint of heart"...what did you all need a picture..oh wait..., and if you couldn't understand what was gonna happen after watching about 30 seconds of that idiot smacking a croc you probably should be allowed on the internet without parental supervision...
(in other words, lighten up a bit Kimberly! You would have figured it out before it became truly distrubing and you would have, I'm certain, closed that little window and avoided the blood and chaos! Unless, of course, you have a secret lust for blood and gore that you don't want to admit to! :-)
I love to snark... you guys should just ban me! :)
Whereas in Western cultures, a few drops of blood and you're busy plucking up fainted people.
seen CSI lately?
and.. "should" should be "shouldn't", shouldn't it?
(that should apply to my last post)
And, that should apply to the first should in my first post...
coffee... i need more coffee
I'd pay good money to make ensure that I NEVER see that video. Thing is, I know I have little to no tolerance for blood & guts, so I always read comments before I click on unknown links. (I've learned through traumatic trial & error)
That being said? I don't think it's a terrible hardship for the poster to clearly indicate when a link has major ick factor - it's simply a courtesy to the community.
Eew. Smells like Metafilter in here.
Wow, what a showman!
Give the fella a hand, folks!
Interesting to note that such graphic macabre video is quite the norm in Indo. Whereas in Western cultures, a few drops of blood and you're busy plucking up fainted people.
Agreed. Heck, in this video they cut away after a few seconds of the guy rolling with the croc, then show him hurrying away from the rear. Where's the whole video?
Oh my god! Thanks so much Huron Bob! What would I do without you?! I'm going to run right out and lighten up right now. Thanks again!! Man, without your comment I would have been cursed with just sitting here, being uptight. Whew!
Admin! Techsmith is picking on me! Oh, wait, no he's not. It's just a bit of the ultra-violence, my friend. Sit back and I'll put on a bit of good old Ludwig Van, that should do the trick.
Kimberly, HuronBob is both very, very old and a zombie. Please don't upset him.
> Give the fella a hand, folks!
pretty 'armless stuff, really.
wanders off in disbelief that people think they can make entertainment with crocodiles that doesn't involve big chunks of flesh flying off of somebody.
Oh! for goodness sake, hold my hand while we cross the information superhighway. Steve Irwin + biting + not for the faint hearted, should have been enough for you. As has been mentioned, it cuts away before you see too much anyway. What I found interesting about this clip was the anticipation I felt, the build-up, just knowing something was going to happen but not quite sure what and when. I think it would have been spoiled for you if I had given a full description of what you were going to see [hence - spoiler]. I do agree about not warning of the embedded wmv though, that was pretty bad of me, sorry about that ;-)
I've got to agree with HuronBob. "Not for the feint of heart" is a perfect warning for this movie. What else was tellurian supposed to say Kimberly?
You're all making the kittens cry, people.
Honestly, when I read the description and the link I thought it was going to be a story about some evil kid killing his parents or something. I have no idea who Steve Irwin is so that had no meaning for me whatsoever.
Like I said, I personally have learned over many years on the internet to be very careful what I click on, but I don't think it's unreasonable to ask that if you're going to post a link to an explict video of someone getting his hand bitten off by an animal it would be nice if there was some kind of explicit warning to go along with it. That's all. No hysterics. No fist chewing. Just a mention that it would be nice to let a person know about exposure to explicit material.
I have no idea who Steve Irwin is...
You are so lucky. I could tell you, but you would carry the taint with you for the rest of your life.
Crikey! The Steve Irwin is only the most famous Aussie around.
Proud to pass the taint
omgz0rs, what have you done?!?
>No hysterics. No fist chewing.
Unfortunate turn of phrase, that.
Okay Kimberly, I see where you are coming from now. Not knowing Steve Irwin would have made it not so clear. My apologies to you and anyone else caught unawares. And Crikey! how on earth have you escaped the Steve Irwin taint? Didn't you hear about when he held his new baby whilst feeding a crocodile at his wildlife park. [news report and photograph of Steve Irwin holding his baby while a crocodile rears up in front of him]
I think, from seeing some croc show, that the tapping on the nose renders them immobile for some reason. Maybe too much lag time between last nose-tap and hand insertion.
Damn that sounds dirrrrty.
From crocs to fisting in less than 24 hours. We're slacking here, people!
It's all rather humourous to me.
The video and this fuss.
caveat emporium also applies to clicking, IMHO
>>No hysterics. No fist chewing.
>Unfortunate turn of phrase, that.
This made my day...
But personally, I think Kimberly should have given us a little warning that she was going to offer such a graphic description of someone having a hand bitten off... oh...wait....
pot and kettle, I call pot and kettle!
Just wanna point out that Kimberly wasn't the first to complain about the lack of warning.
Oooooh! That guy! I remember the baby thing, I just never retained his name because he annoyed me. And can I just say, "D'oh!" about the fist chewing thing. hahaha. oops. And while I'm here, thanks techsmith, I thought it was interesting that I was being singled out too.
"caveat emporium"
Don't you mean , Caveat Emptor?
Reading too much Gone With The Wind, methinks.
Wait, I need some credit here... I was the one that started picking on Kimberly!
But, to make up for it... I have a somewhat less disturbing animal training video for you, Kimberly...Click Here!
You know what is even more disturbing... I just noticed that, using firefox on my mac, with just this thread open in one tab...the tab says...and i quote: "Monkey filter | Steve Irwin eat you...."
Now THAT is disturbing...
croc-tamingcroc-taunting after that.
