This Player Sucks!
"We are SICK of overpaid athletes giving poor efforts during the game, and acting like idiots outside the game. We're giving fans a voice: if you're tired of a crummy player, start a petition to have that player traded. If we get enough signatures, we'll send the petition directly to the owners and GM of his team explaining why fans think that player needs to go."

it's weird, mid, i got that message once, but then was able to get into the site. try again perhaps?
-
oh and i'm totally with you on barry bonds. sheesh.
-
type in the url from a new window or click via google, etc. and what about overpaid owners/GMs?
-
Nothing brings out the villagers with the pitchforks in America like "overpaid" (often black) atheletes. I'd like to see the athletes start petitions to deprive some fans of their jobs or get them transferred to another city.
-
Professional athletics: taking games too seriously since 2390 B.C.E.
-
I'd like to see the athletes start petitions to deprive some fans of their jobs or get them transferred to another city. When somebody wants to pay me seven to eight figures a year to do my job, you can put me on any petition you want.
-
When you are in the top .0001% of people in the world at your profession, as pro athletes are, you will get paid that much or more. Simple supply and demand.
-
and PS: a large salary does not, in my book, create a sliding morality scale where it is acceptable to say or do evil things to the person in question.
-
I'm with Wedge onthis one. How about petitions to drive overpaid CEOs/coaches/GMs out of town? (People of Portland, get your petitions ready--your NBA owner just popped $7 million/yr for Nate McMillan.) I do think that many sports figures are paid out of proportion to their value to society, but I'm not Jerry Buss or George Steinbrenner or Mike Illitch; those are the guys who are overpaying. If the agents can get the client a $65 million guaranteed contract, wouldn't the client be a fool to NOT take it. Wouldn't the closest rival in talent level be a fool to NOT demand the same? "Stop me before I spend again" ought to be the motto of every GM/owner in sports. I enjoy sports, but wouldn't be sorry if the entertainment level and prices were like AA baseball or IHL hockey. I know I am prejudiced, but I think that teachers deserve the million dollar contracts. And boo on drjimmy11 for playing the race card.

When somebody wants to pay me seven to eight figures a year to do my job, you can put me on any petition you want. posted by middleclasstool mct, I assume you mean not counting the two after the decimal?
-
drjimmy11, I agree with you that those at the top of their professions should be paid the most. And I have a lot of respect for how hard good athletes work. But the best teachers in the world don't get twenty mil a year -- hell, I bet even most doctors don't -- so I think one can make a case that either (a) most other professions are vastly underpaid or (b) marquee players are vastly overpaid. Secondly, it's not about a sliding scale of morality. Public criticism or an expressed desire that some player be traded away from my favorite team is hardly "evil." If you choose a life of wealth and fame, a life in the public eye, criticism's bound to come with that. Bigger rewards can, do and should entail bigger responsibilities and/or costs. Put another way, if you hit forty home runs a year and own two homes and have a collectible rookie card and his-and-hers Jaguars, and you can't take fan criticism, then perhaps you need to take a step back and examine how tragic your life really is.
-
That would be correct, deconstructo. Though, shit, I'll take eight figures including those after the decimal. I'll take it in a by-God cocaine heartbeat.
-
Would you be happy to make $1.0000000 per annum?
-
Depends. What is the current cost of living in Belize?
-
Ham.
-
I've a better idea: STOP WATCHING SPORTS WITH OVERPAID ATHLETES. Dumbasses.
-
Yeah, woo-hoo, mr no-sports boy.
