Tynwald Day today celebrates the ancient Parliament with various ceremonies. It is the national day of the Isle of Man, and a celebration of its unique heritage.

The Tynwald claims to be the oldest Parliament. The Icelandic Althing is older, but does not have a completely continuous history. The Faroese Løgting is also a contender I could only find this rather rubbish link, I'm afraid. Or maybe the oldest Parliament is actually the Kanishthang Of course, the Isle of Man is also famous for rumpies and stumpies.

  • Ah, the Isle of Manannan Mac Lir!
  • One of my cats is a partial stumpy after an incident involving the back door...
  • I went to the Isle of Man, nice place if you got out of the capital. Nice links.
  • I was watching the Top Gear Isle of Man episode on Sunday. It looks like a nice place and apparently outside of the towns there are no road rules, or something. It's all to do with the independent Parliament. Sounds...neat.
  • I am about to propose an Act of Tynwald that the Isle of Man be hereafter known as the Isle of Dude. /proceeds to lobby
