All cereal, all the time!

I noticed this story in my recent NEWSWEEK. I love the bit about the businessmen who come in for their Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

  • I heard about this place year and a half or so ago on NPR.
  • Um, the poster's user name is "snack" and we have two links about a "cereal bar and cafe" called Cereality??? Why are my spidey senses tingling?
  • Pajama-clad Cereologists™ fill the orders. Mh, if they allowed patrons to show up in theirs, and provided I didn't die of sugar overdose in a week, I'd have breakfast there everyday.
  • path - i appreciate the suspicion! however, the coincidence is simply that ... well, i -do- like cereal...
  • Mmmmmmmm...cereal...(drool)...yeah, this has been run throught the 'Filtersphere a couple of times, but since it appears that there is a now a new location (Chi-town), it's probably worth another post!
  • It's a corporate restaurant chain being bankrolled by Quaker Oats.
  • Relax, path. He has been a member for over two months now, and there is nothing in his email address or bio that would sugge- EEK!!! EEK!!! EEK!!!
  • she. her. bio fleshing out shall commence.
  • bio complete - delurk complete.
  • The river Temarc in winter.
  • Shaka. When the walls fell.
  • Kailash, when it rises.
  • Sokath, his eyes uncovered.
  • Total Pepsi Blue post.
  • Temarc! ... The river, Temarc. Koko, eating cereal.
  • I would dine at one of these establishments.
  • Total Pepsi Blue post. total Metafilter comment. This is something interesting posted by someone who found it interesting and isnt involved in it in any way. Where's the problem?
  • Kiazi's children, their faces wet
  • Even if he/she's on the up and up, what's there to discuss? You can go eat there and think it's great and advertise it here in a cereal blue kind of mode, or try it out and decide that snack is really clued into the current fad and innudundate us with "gee cereal is really good, especially Kellogs/Post/Whatever, and I'll eat it there every day." So what??? You can buy cereal in your local grocery store and eat it every day. You can go to your local health food store and buy cereal there to eat avery day. And, snack, I'd be a little less suspicious if both links didn't refer to the same Cereality chain. A lot of links on cereal history/goodness/benefits with maybe just an offhand mention of Cereality might have been a good post, but this just looks like shilling for the company in my eyes. So try another topic and give us your best shot, please.
  • I saw a story about this too and thought it was cute how they used chinese take out style containers to hold the cereal. The toppings bar reminds me of frozen yogurt/ice cream places. The Slurrealities sound weird, like possibly too much fiber for a drink. I'm not sure what exactly cereality parfait might be but that sounds good.
  • Hmm, I guess my comment was kind of "gee cereal is really good, especially Kellogs/Post/Whatever, and I'll eat it there every day." The Empty Bowl - The Empty Bowl is a webzine devoted to serving the cereal eating community. Here you'll find reviews, feature articles, and general discussions about the greatest breakfast product on the face of the earth: cereal! Registration required, unfortunately, to read the reviews. But the links pages are public and look like they might help me in my search for a mystery cereal from my youth that I liked - a corn based puffed square shaped cereal with a scarecrow on the box at one time. So good.
  • path - or perhaps i saw the newseek article and posted it for reference and a halfway interesting story. the website link after that is self-explanatory. as for discussion, you could talk about how interesting or stupid the idea of the restaurant is. you could talk about how maybe you think they've sold out to corporate america. you could even go out on a limb and argue that it goes against main-stream dietary society by promoting a high-carb lifestyle. your imagination is the limit of the discussion. or you could expand on your current topic and continue to complain about how i could have made this a better post. but like it or not, discussion has ensued. i appreciate your feedback.
  • PY - thanks for the link! i'm poking around the site now.
  • Scratch that bit about registration required. I'm able to read the reviews without signing up.
  • PY - perhaps it was Quaker Corn Bran? that's the only cereal i can find that was corn, puffed, and had a scarecrow as a spokesperson.
  • I think that must be it. I remember those little stripes on the crunchy squares too. Thanks. Now that I know the name I can look for it at the store.
  • good luck! unfortunately for me, double dip crunch is no longer available. they were frosted crispix. i loved them.
  • But you can't mention Quaker cereals without tipping the ol' sailor's cap to Jay Ward's classic Cap'n Crunch commercials
  • snack, you're the one presenting this thing. Tell me what's worth discussing and maybe I'll be interested enough to respond. As it stands, bitching feels right. You, as the one posting, need to provide facts and stuff, lead the conversation up to a point, and then let it live on its own. But, if it's all about how Cereality is the best thing ever, well, it's just an advertisment.
  • path, i never said it was the best thing ever. i simply provided a link to somewhere that looked interesting to me. if they had a restaurant here, i'd try it. i don't need to tell you what's worth discussing for you to respond - you've done that enough by your own volition. please, continue the bitching if it feels right. i'm all about doing what feels right! if this feels like an advert to you, then by all things interesting, it is allowed to be an advert for you. but just for you. i'd hate to make these sorts of exceptions for just anyone. you, however, make me smile.
  • path and snack at Tanagra.
  • Tell me what's worth discussing She just did. The problem here is we've been burned a few times here with marketroids, so we tend to look the horse in the teeth and in the arse, just to be sure it's not a (pepsi) blue horse (sorry BlueHorse!) Sure, anyone can eat cereal in their house, but it's the indulgence in having such a variety in one place and the questionable nutritional value of the product what strikes me as odd; trying to regain the lost days when a big bowl of flakes made the start of our day shine. I loved flakes, but having troubles with dairy and sugar intake means this kind of products are just off-limits, healthy-wise. And, hey, I used to make shakes and fill my chocolate glass with flakes, back when a kid; loved that drink thick enough to chew. Maybe I could sue?
  • And hey, all you darmokians are creeping me out.
  • Chy, his liver swelled.
  • I don't like cereal. I want a really cheesey restaurant.
  • 'path, i never said it was the best thing ever. i simply provided a link to somewhere that looked interesting to me. if they had a restaurant here, i'd try it.' Ok, that's cool, but how is this worthy of a post? Well, I don't think you got it. It's your post and you need to tell me why I should care. If you don't explain, I'll feel free to bitch. That's just a hint for the future. I do eat cereal, but only for dessert after dinner, so I'm not entirely alienated, but there's a world of cereal out there, and I can buy ginger granola at Trader Joe's and pig out on it without leaving my house. (Is that an opinion or a promotion?) So why would I want to hit a restaurant to eat. Obie Wan Kenobi. I think you're capable of better stuff, since you have enough charm to tell me I made you smile, so gimme your best shot with a new post.
  • MonkeyFilter: Continue the bitching if it feels right We've all gotten a fine tagline out of this, so play nice now, DAMMIT! You, there, no Count Chocula for you this morning.
  • Hmmmm, Flagpole, could you check for a draft? I feel curiously exposed.
  • Monkeyfilter: Why are my spidey senses tingling? Monkeyfilter: bio fleshing out shall commence Monkeyfilter: your imagination is the limit of the discussion Monkeyfilter: you could even go out on a limb Monkeyfilter: double dip crunch is no longer available Monkeyfilter: bitching feels right Monkeyfilter: we tend to look the horse in the teeth and in the arse Monkeyfilter: tell me why I should care Monkeyfilter: pig out on it without leaving my house
  • C'mon, path, lighten up. You're working this too hard. It's a link about, y'know, Franken Berry.
  • If you don't explain, I'll feel free to bitch. That's just a hint for the future. i look forward to our future encounters. *grin*
  • why in the hell is newsweek picking up on this NOW? christ, it's been in the news since april 2004.
  • But you can't mention cereal without a grand Boo Berry story. [via the PoopReport.com - some banner ads potentially NSFW]
  • I had to actually stop eating cereal because if I have a box of it in the cupboard I will simply eat it all day, thus wasting it. Being incredibly lazy, such an easy to make food is a trap.
