Literature Online. From Adams to Zola, including Aesop, Forster, and Montgomery (some of my favorites).

The format isn't the easiest if you aren't used to reading on-screen, but I did learn something already - I had no idea that The Blue Lagoon was originally a novel.

  • Here, have some more, with no ads, easy formatting, and no wretched popups.
  • Cool. Thanks to ye both.
  • Good reading here. ))) to jb and Wolof!!!
  • And, but, also...ManyBooks.net. You can download in a variety of formats, including PDF. I grabbed their Balzac. :D
  • Bibliomania is the place I go to for free classic texts. What I like about it: minimal ads (no pop-ups). It also has full-text search and thoughtfully a bookmarking capability! Of the literature sites i've seen, this is the closest one that comes to the book reading experience without hard copy. Oh yeah: 2000 books, poems, non-fiction, study guides. Interesting note, it's a labor of love. From the FAQ: "Bibliomania.com Ltd no longer has any employees but the ex-employees keep the site running".
  • Sorry about the popups - I have blocking, and don't know which sites have them.
  • Literature Online has no Conrad. Phooey. The others noted here have Heart of Darkness though. And don't forget the ebooks Ur-source (and the source of many of these): Project Gutenberg . Although I confess I do like it that these derivative sites don't have those oodles of pages of introductory text; I've always wondered why they have to include it in everything.
  • I wrote: Literature Online has no Conrad. Phooey. Ahem.
  • MoFite's hope me!! Does anyone know of a site that has Verne's Le Maison à vapeur (The Steam House)?
  • MoFite's hope me!! Does anyone know of a site that has Verne's Le Maison à vapeur (The Steam House)? Amend that. Does anyone know of a site that has Verne's Le Maison à vapeur (The Steam House) in english?
  • I grabbed their Balzac. :D TP, you little Dickens: Why does a civilized discussion always have to devolve into Wilde locker room play and bad spelling? Let go of the Balzac before I have to kick you Dumas. Some old to me, some new--Great sites!
