The Very Strange Tale of Candy Jones; Supermodel and CIA Hypnocourier
"The government was pursuing exactly that line of research: creating an artificially-split personality out of an imaginary childhood playmate."
‘How old were you when you quit playing with your imaginary friend?’ After you have decided on your military occupational status, you take another test. People going into Special Forces are asked the same questions—‘Did you have imaginary playmates?’—plus additional ones along the same line. ‘Was that imaginary friend more or less aggressive than you?’

You tease. Just when it was getting good, wham - "Purchasing details, click here."
-
I'm moving in with these people. "Is it safe?!"
-
You are getting sleeeepy . . . . . .

...it was better than Cats, I will go see it again and again. -
A friend of mine was the bassplayer for the Melbourne production of "Cats". He saw it (albeit from the pit) eight times a week for something like seven years. A better man than I, obviously.
-
Good Lord. I don't know how I got through seeing just one production.
-
I had to* play "Memories" in a stage show for three weeks, and that was quite enough, thank you. *well, only if I wanted to get paid, of course

This story was long but interesting. I saw the Manchurian Candidate and wondered if they could really accomplish this sort of thing. They said Candy herself was a "normal" personality but I can't imagine that's true considering that she had this capacity to split so easily. I think she's definitely strong though because you'd have to be to go through the hell she did and survive. This is so fascinating to me. Thanks, MJ.

Damn, that is an interesting story. Seems ripe for a film treatment. Here's the Fortean Times article on it.
-
Yes, I want the end of the story, too!

Thanks for the link, patita! Reading that, and the one moneyjane provided, makes me sad for Candy. Either a) she was brainwashed by the government and all that horrible stuff really happened to her or b) she went from a mean mom who abused her to a mean first husband who stole her money to a mean second husband who got her to "confirm" the theories he had been talking about for years on his radio show or c)she had some serious organic mental problems from mean mom and mean first husband and nice second husband took her at her word, which only reinforced her psychosis. Any way you look at it, it's sad. I wonder what happened to her after second husband died?

Seems ripe for a film treatment Totally! I see Angelina Jolie as Candy Jones, and Tommy Lee Jones as the mysterious Dr. Jensen.
-
Mk Ultra? Prostitutes and acid... I love it!
-
I see Kidman in the role.

Has anybody read The CIA's Control of Candy Jones? I must admit I'm tempted to pick it up if I see it on the bookshelf someday soon.
