The Perry-Castaneda Library Map Collection at the University of Texas at Austin holds more than 230,000 maps, many of which have been scanned. This extensive online collection includes hundreds of high quality, copyright-free maps of nations and cities, as well as many historical maps. A special "Electronic Maps of Current Interest" section highlights maps of places in the news. This site also hosts a variety of links to other map-related sites.
  • It's indeed impressive. I posted it to an AskMeFi Q a couple of days ago and another worthy plug is this map weblog which is where I found the UoTex site in the first place.
  • Perry-Castaneda has been in my favorites for years! Such a fantastic collection as well as additional links. This was an essential site when I was taking various History/Geography classes.
  • That blog peacay links to is cool as all get-out.
  • Best-o-the-Web Does anyone have the web address of the catastrophe map? I've lost it. It's a way cool site that has a global map with various icons--fire, windstorm, flood, etc, and when clicked on, the link is to a satellite image. I lost my bookmark thingie and can't find it.
